Matronites

The Matronites, are the given name the Holy order turned nation, run entirely by an elite group of woman who are adept both in martial and magic abilities. The order is comprised primarily of Njortan humans, but accepts woman from all different ethnicities to expand their holy ranks. Furthermore while the majority of the order is of human blood, the higher ranking members are often blessed with a celestial rebirth that turns them into an Aasimar of their Goddess Callina  While the Order itself has a nation of its own on the Island of Templess. They have successfully grabbed the mainland territory that used to be known as Njorta. This seizure of territory has lead to a sizable grasp on the continent at large, as well as becoming a domineering force in the diverse Njortan cultures. While Matronites are all women within their own ranks, they do not enforce an exclusive regime for Njortan people. Instead this view point encourages a more matriarch focused society in the neighboring territories.

Structure

Matronites worship the Titan Goddess Callina. This worship is typically mediated by the Daughter, the mortal reincarnation of they're goddess' will. The daughter has 10 appointed sorceress. Trained and groomed sense birth, each sorceress is charged with different aspects of the Orders practices. Beyond the scope of the Matronites, for their occupied lands leadership falls to the occupants. This usually results in smaller semi demarcation governing pockets. On occasion Matronites will visit these cities to reinforce control.

Culture

The core belief structure of the Matronites revolves around three core principles. These ideals serve as a fundamental baseline towards how they run their society. While they are by no means perfect they believe themselves to be and act on it. Matronites do not force their ideals on others but encourage initiation into their ranks.
  • The female form is a sacred vessel for Callina's arcane gifts. While males can reach strength in alternative ways they believe them anatomically incapable of hosting Callina's magic.
  • Humanity is a fragile race that must be protected against the corruption of external forces. If someone seeks to take away Balance, it must be countered.
  • Some times the greatest means of Offense is a superior defense.

Public Agenda

The interests of the Matronites are largely reactionary. Not wanting to upset what they have, Matronites spend the majority of their time living in balance. While in this state most Matronites engage in peaceful living, training, and upholding the order of their land. Some radicalist Matronites do exist and are actively seeking to end total corruption. This is not publicly condoned existing more as a clandestine operation within their ranks.

Assets

Matronites have a unique advantage in the form of their connections to the forces of Mt. Celestia. This has provided them a leg up in their military game. In particularly thanks to the extra supply of troops, goods, and magic.

Demography and Population

The Matronites themselves are entirely female with a mix of ethnic backgrounds. The most common of these include Njortans, and Aasimar. They have longer life expectancies than normal, but have to recruit ritually to gain new members.

Military

The majority of individuals belonging to the Matronites have some semblance of martial training. Many of them are formidable soldiers. This skill, along with their proficiency in magic allowed them to claim a major territory of Joorduunim as their own. Matronites also have members of the Celestial Legionwithin their ranks. Thanks to their unique circumstances Matronites are blessed with one of the most formidable military forces on Na'Endreth, albeit one of the least used ones. Almost functioning as a weapon of assured destruction.

Foreign Relations

The relationships between Matronites and the surrounding areas is pretty stable. Most cultures tend to have a wide array of opinions on them, but they remain fairly non-interactive with their neighbors. That is with the exception of the occupied region, which the maintain a fierce yet protective grasp on.

Education

Members are taught at a young age and educated in a vast array of topics. They will often be divided between martial and magical schooling, but hybridized courses are common depending on the degree of each individual student. Teachings are taught by personal mentorships typically at a 1:8 ration between Master and Pupils. This education will last indefinitely until their master demes them worthy a process that most reach by the age of 25 year of age. Even then education still carries forward in the form of training only with more of a peer based structure.

Ethics

Women are granted more freedom than Men are behind Matronite walls. Men are very rarely aloud within the holy city of the Matronites. Or in the case of occupied territory men are not aloud within their holy temples. Otherwise basic human rights are afforded to all peoples as understood by a universal culture. A sense of liberty comes in hand with their diligence, allowing art to be made of their martial and magical practices. To them resurrection magic is not as sinful as it may be in other corners of the world.

Priesthood

Each member of the Matronites is granted some semblance of priesthood upon taking the oath of her people. Those who progress in rank often do so by honorable feats in the name of the Matronite cause, or inheritance from a deceased member who's rolls need to be filled. Those particularly gifted in the art of the arcane from birth are groomed for higher ranking rolls in the clergy. They are often distinguishable with less stoic demeanors or martial equipment than their sisters. Others prove their worth and are accepted within the ranks from hard work alone.

Granted Divine Powers

Upon accepting an invitation into the Matronites orders one can expect a few things. The ritual of purification is a rather barbaric practice that turns man who undergoes it into a woman, and any woman into and Aasimar. The process is usually only done on willing targets as a means of adding to their ranks or divine promotions. Often times many young girls are born with the draconic ancestry of Callina. Be it by holy union between Matronite and an outsider, or by pure happenstance these gifted individuals are sought out and taken in for their magical talent.
