Moonlight Caverns
The Moonlight Caverns are the primary source of stone, metals, and gems for The Three Kingdoms. Located in the foothills of the Troll Mountains on the far eastern edge of the Fairy Plains, the caverns are a deep cave system that contains numerous types of precious materials.
Natural Resources
Gold, silver, and bronze can all be found in varying quantities throughout the caverns, as well as all of the gems that are commonly used and traded in The Three Kingdoms — rubies, topazes, emeralds, sapphires, amethysts, rose quartz, diamonds, opals, and moonstones. It is these most common metals and gems that the Fairy Calendar takes its month and day names from. In addition to these more precious materials, various types of stone are also commonly mined from the caverns.
History
The Moonlight Caverns have been used by the Fairies for millennia. An old Fairy document contains the following passage about the caverns:
Every full moon the fairies go into the Everlands Mining Caverns. They search from twilight to dawn for precious metals and gems by moonlight. There are very few entrances, and many pitch-black tunnel mazes. They gather large rocks from the tunnels then bring them into the moonlight and search for gems. If in the tunnels they see a gem, they pry it out and put it in their cart. When young fairies go in for their first time, the whole cave glitters just for them.
