Naiko Creation Myth
Also known as "When the Goddess Got Lonely"
The most common creation myth among Fairies and other Good species is the story of the goddess Ethrinia creating all the creatures of Naiko in nine days. A common version of this story is as following.Story
Once, long ago, before there were fairies and trolls and even dragons, the goddess Ethrinia lived on Naiko. Her daughters lived with her, and they lived in peace. But eventually, the goddess Ethrinia got lonely. She had her daughters, yes, but she wanted someone else... some other beings. Not gods and goddesses, but mortals. They would live for a hundred years then die. She started to sculpt bodies out of stars to give them magic. She gave them life and death, breath, feelings, and love. She made houses, simple straw ones. Then she made land and sea, and placed her creations on land. "You are to walk on land," she whispered, "But some of you shall have flight, and some shall swim." She made plants: trees, grass, bushes, and vines. She made animals: Unisuses (flying unicorns), dragonflyers, flowerflyers, and bats. She made dragons, giving them 10,000 year lives, and phoenixes that are reborn from their ashes and live forever. She made fish that live in the water and sea monsters with evil in them. It took nine days to do all this, so she decided, "Nine days shall be a week." With her work done, she ascended into the heavens to live with her daughters, and finally she rested to watch from above.
