Raxoth

Raxoth are large domesticated creatures raised as livestock in Northern Aisoa. Despite their large size, they are unsuited for use as beasts of burden - they are slow and clumsy, and are far more likely to lay down than do work.   Most ranchers who keep them as cattle keep them in valleys and fields far from cliffs where they might fall or injury themselves. Luckily, they are rarely bothered by predators. They are raised for meat, hide, and fur. Foods prepared from raxoth meat are generally rich, savory, and high in fats - stews are a particularly popular option across Bocrae and Veczi.
These large, furry rhino-like creatures are ultimately gentle beasts, though they can be incredibly stubborn. They fare much better in the frigid north than mundane cows, and are rarely seen elsewhere. Wild raxoth still roam the north.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Raxoth are large four legged hooved mammals with a wide, build. They have a single prominent horn growing from their forehead, which they use to scrape bark off of trees, and dig for edible plant roots. A large hump on their back serves as a sort of long term food storage - building up layers of fat to keep them warm and fed in harsh winter months.   They are generally unsuitable for riding due to their stubborn, lazy temperament and size. Well fed adults can reach 7 feet tall at their highest.   They are covered in coarse fur that lengthens around the hump and head. As primarily herbivores, they have wide blunt teeth used to slowly chew whatever vegetation and roots they find.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Raxoth subsist on whatever vegetation they happen upon, and prefer tree bark, roots, and shrubs over grass. They are well motivated by all sorts of fruit, but tend towards poor health if they eat too much of it.
