Bocrae
<Boss-ray>
History
Since roughly 3583 EC, the nation of Bocrae has controlled a large portion of Northern Aisoa as long as most historians care to write about. Despite their longstanding control, the nation is pieced together from many disparate individual settlements that bear little interest in matters of the state. It stretches far west, where its borders become fuzzy, and whoever can truly claim the land is in charge.
In 3923 EC, there was a civil war that resulted in the nation of Aswana being formed from the eastern half of Bocrae. Unable to retake their land, the leaders of Bocrae have been forced to accept their new neighbor, and their lost eastern territory.
Demography and Population
Bocrae is an overwhelmingly Human nation, but thanks to its large size boasts impressive diversity as a whole. The western midlands of the country have a hodge-podge of Halfling townships, and across the whole of the population there it a larger percentage of half-elves thanks to traveling elves from the Great Forest.
Territories
Bocrae is split into five regions, but most only consider three of them to be truly meaningful. Bocrae's western regions are incredibly poor, sparsely populated, and plagued by wild dangers and unrest. Giants in the snowy western mountains claim the region as well.
Bocrae's central region of Vyakovo splits the region in half. It is large, and controls the roads that run through the north of the country. It rivals the region of Zeleniy along the Panari Waves in power and wealth, and most internal politics tend to concern one of these two regions.
The region of Volod has become more relevant in recent years, and played a crucial part in defending Bocrae's northern borders during the Aswani Civil War. Though it remains a poor region, similar to the western regions, it has gained powerful allies in the noble courts thanks to a political marriage between the count of Volod.
Foreign Relations
Relations between Bocrae and Aswana are strained, and Bocrae makes frequent military excursions to the borders as a show of force. The countries of Lenif and Veczi both and remained neutral during the civil war which disproportionately benefitted Aswana. Trade continues, but formal relations are in the process of being mended.
Trade & Transport
Bocrae is still reeling from losing Aswana, and has few things left to export. It produced much of the food that Aswana relied on, and still has an excess of farms beyond what is required. It trades most of its exports to Lenif, and relies on imported cloth.
Most of Bocrae's trade is done via overland routes, with another significant portion traded across the great lake that it, Lenif, and Aswana share.
