Stitchborn
Stitchborn are humanoids altered by the residual magic that infuses the Spellscar. They began to be born to the population of Indo and Vankya several months after the obliteration of Ebonspine. They are named after the Stitch, the first blast mark created when the Worldfire was first used.
Stitchborn can be of any parent species, even in couples who traveled to Indo after the destruction of Ebonspine. Likelyhood in having Stitchborn children seems to increase among people who spend more time near or in the Spellscar - especially soldiers. Stitchborn children among civilians is much less common, but have been documented as far as 110 miles from the edge of the scar. They are more common on the eastern side of the scar.
Stitchborn can be fairly varied, and come in "generations" that often share similar traits based on year of birth. The most common mutation is an ashen black-gray skin tone, and bone-like protrusions most common on the head and limbs.
Basic Information
Genetics and Reproduction
Stitchborn spring into being as children of species located close to the Spellscar. They have been seen among intelligent humanoids, nonhumanoids, and animals alike. The trait appears to be passed on to children, and shows signs of slowly losing potency after further generations rather than being a particular recessive or dominant gene.
Additionally, Stitchborn seem to have an expanded ability to reproduce between species that normally couldn't - such as feyfolk and humans, or dwarves and elves. Such individuals tend to have a unique blend of traits from each of their parent species as well as the traits attributed to being a Stitchborn.
Civilization and Culture
Major Organizations
Stitchborn are by far most common in Indo, followed by Vankya. The other nations of the Southern Corridor and the people of Holter tend to treat them as uncommon sights.
Outside of the corridor and Ammalion, Stitchborn are exceedingly rare, tending to be far traveling merchants or adventurers.
Cultural Perceptions
Stitchborn tend to be viewed with a mixture of pity, fear, or revulsion. Though their existence is normalized in Vankya and Indo, most other places tend to ostracize them as something corrupted, or sick. After the public discovered the existence of the Stitchborn, and linked it to the destruction of the Ebonspine, there was widespread panic that it may be permanent, and anger at their nations for fighting the war. Reactions between Vankya and Indo was massively different. In Vankya, and among its allies, Stitchborn were treated as a curse set on them by the rulers of Indo who were too greedy to stop their war. The rulers of Vankya warned that if given their way, the Indonese would one day turn their weapon even further west. Their war weary allies commit new troops to the war, atop a huge rush of recruitment among their population. However, it came at great cost. Many Stitchborn were abandoned to their parents, dying to the elements or becoming orphaned, and some were even killed outright. Even today, they remain a distasteful minority in Vankya. In Indo, the appearance of Stitchborn was treated as a cultural wound to the Indonese people, inflicted by invaders who have forced the nation into a corner. Early support of the families with Stitchborn children by the Indonese government helped lead to a more gentle reaction. Though they are still often treated as an 'other' in their own home cities, their life in Indo has been welcomed. A small subculture of Stitchborn has formed with its own short mannerisms and identity.
