Spellscar
The Spellscar, also known as the Spellscarred Lands, is a region that lays along the border of Indo and Vankya. It was created by the Worldfire, and compounded by decades of arcane bombardment, powerful spells, and battles between the war mages of the two nations.
Despite the advantage the Worldfire gives Indo, the Spellscar has remained one of the most heavily contested over the Caheb War. The difficult terrain of the desert to the north, and a strong navy to the south means that the spellscar remains the most straightforward route possible.
Geography
The Spellscar is a region that stretches north from the coast of the Southern Corridor, along the border between Indo and Vanyka. It curves somewhat, keeping roughly the same distance from the Balsets which hold the Worldfire. The ground of the Spellscar has been scorched and crystallized down to a blackened sand, and even the weather has been altered by residual magic left by heavy use of magic. Clouds rain acid, thunder with dark magic, and wind blows powerful enough to lift men off the ground.
Husks of hastily made towers and battlements are strewn across the region, providing the only shelter from the storms. Traps make travel dangerous at best, and lethal without preparation.
Many of the landmarks of the Spellscar are named after important battles, fallen generals, or after what used to exist before it was destroyed. The long streak of the worst damage at the center of the Spellscar is known as the Stitch.
Natural Resources
Though most of the resources of the region were destroyed long ago, heavy use has created several new materials unique to the Spellscar.
Blood Shards are sometimes created when arcane lightning strikes the sands of the Spellscar. The sand is crystalized, and can act as an incredibly powerful conduit of arcane energy. It has become a valued resource to mages across the continent, and adventurers and scavengers frequently attempt to sneak past military patrols to search for them.
Most sand in the Spellscar has some latent magic, but this tends to dissipate once removed from the region. It has found some minor value as a decoration among nobles who simply want the blackened sand aesthetic. But in some cases, the conditions are just right to allow this magic to keep its arcane energy. In bulk, it can be used as a dampening agent to prevent the use of magic.
