Snapflashes

Snapflashes are large, boxy devices which use powdered Essence to create an impression of a scene on a sheet of paper. This is done by igniting the small layer of essence in front of a sheet of paper, leaving on it a slightly yellow tinged, yet high quality image.   The name itself comes from the snapping sound made by the ignition, and the flash of the essence detonating.

Utility

They are mainly used for pleasure. Illusory magic and an excellent memory are used for more detailed images.

Manufacturing

The process is a complicated one, and if performed by an untrained individual in an uncontrolled environment, the results are likely to be explosive.

Access & Availability
They are available for purchase by the general public (especially in Luminessa ), however the cost is generally quite high, especially to purchase one.   Single use snapflashes are available for a much lower price.
Complexity
Single use snapflashes are not enormously complicated, though containing the reaction is impressive. Snapflashes which can be used multiple times are far more impressive, and employ a level complexity which make them unaffordable to most.
Discovery
The technology itself is still in its infancy, barely a year old. It is used mainly among the nobility where, along with Essence Marking, they are seen as a status symbol.
