Chapter 3, Session 7: Storage Wars!
General Summary
'I don't know what they are... but you NEED to get me those damn earrings!'Hermione of Vallea spent some time studying her book and spell scroll before joining the rest of the party at The Bladed Odyssey auction house. They learned that Emperor Honour had a particular love of auction houses, explaining why there were so many in the city. On arrival, the party split into groups, with Peregrine and Malus attempting to sell the Dreaming Bark tablecloth and Esmerae and Sigholdt trying to sell the Dreaming Bark duvet. While Peregrine and Malus put on an entertaining performance during their selling, Esmerae cast Suggestion on someone in the audience to help bring up the prices. Realising this, Peregrine then did the same as Esmerae used her sex appeal to sell the duvet, resulting in each pair gaining a good amount of money (and many many rations!). After successful selling, the party explored the other auctions. Together they scrabbled enough gold and loot to buy The Dreamer's Tome , Hidden Isles Jewelled Earrings , a former bandolier belonging to The Honour Blades including 6 deactivated elemental bullets, and the Ruiner's Tome. When Hermione took the earrings, they began to glow and hover, despite seemingly being nonmagical- she quickly hid them from view. Sigholdt went to speak with the Head of Necromancy and the Head of Evocation - two wizards from The Magus Arcanum from The Mind's Jewel who had been bidding on the Ruinor’s Tome. From them, he learned that the Ruiner was a powerful wizard who held a lot of influence over both Peridot and Kaechaek - having travelled to Kaechaek to try and use dreams to boost Runic Magic. Meanwhile, when the party spotted Roland from The Celeste Family in the crowd (having just purchased a very nice rapier Esmerae had had her eyes on), Peregrine went to check in with him. Roland appeared tired, with a heavy weight on his shoulders. With a surprisingly successful insight check and a gentle chat, Peregrine learned that Roland had realised he couldn’t leave (or perhaps been reminded by his father) as he was the last one left/head of the family and had a duty to stay and lead. He had bought the blade for Esmerae in case she ever returned, as he remembered she liked rapiers. Peregrine sympathised with Roland and asked if he had any message to pass on, in case she ran into Esmerae again. Roland asked her to tell Esmerae that he was proud of the woman she was due to become and hoped that the dusk and the setting of the sun always granted her passage. When Peregrine returned to the group, she passed on the message, to which Esmerae noted that the last part of it was typically said as a threat or a sad statement of loss, so was not exactly reassuring. Next, the party decided to take part in the Dump Run, where groups could bid to win a storage unit and would have a few seconds to race in and grab whatever they could find. Choosing not to bid on the first unit, the party (with Hermione’s very kind patronage) was able to win the second unit and raced in to loot, gathering many items including an amulet capable of animating objects, but cursed to make them want to kill themselves - which the suit of armour currently animated promptly did. The party then chose to spend some time scoping out the tomb in preparation for investigating the mystery around Emperor Honour. Arriving at the cemetery, they realised it was a bit of a tourist spot with lots of citizens visiting, including going down into the Emperors’ Tomb. After getting permission from the guards (and receiving another congratulations on Peregrine’s engagement to Honour Blade Xanthier), the party went down, looking around the space and successfully finding a secret tunnel! They also learned that the guards were stationed at the entrance 24/7, the tomb closed at sundown (9 pm that night), and Emperor Honour always arrived at midnight via the main entrance. After some discussion, the party came up with the plan to go in just before closing and drop Sigholdt off in his bottle before leaving. Sigholdt would then leave his bottle to enter the tunnel and follow it to find where it exited, and then bring the party back down it. Until then, the party chose to feat train and read books. Esmerae and Malus tag teamed to train for the Alert feat, recognising a sense of foreboding worry in the city. Peregrine had to make a wisdom save as she read the Dreamer’s Tome, learning that it was the mad ramblings of a man about his dreams, and possibly his waking moments. He mentioned a shadow, and a tablet potentially linked to the vision Peregrine had about the Long Night Ritual. The party also spent some time going through their loot and financial resources before preparing to go down to the tomb and enact their plan.
- Hermione of Vallea ominously whispers her auction demands in the ears of Esmerae.

The belt consists of black smoke, which wraps itself around and rotates. Once the command word is spoken, the smoke shoots towards a target, and becomes a solid mass of tentacles.
Once per long rest, as an action you can speak the command word, and choose one large or smaller target within 30ft of you. The target must make a charisma save against your spell DC. If the target fails the save, they will take 4d8 psychic damage, become restrained and fall prone. At the end of each turn, the target may repeat this save to break their spectral restraints.
Angel's Tears
