Star People

The Star People are a tall and strangely beautiful species; who believe themselves to be descended from the stars, not shaped by the gods like common folks.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They have a typical humanoid structure, except for one major difference: their skin can absorb Mana through the pores. Their skin is translucent, due to how long they have been using Mana. It tends to be a neutral color, spanning from a dusky, pearly white, to a dark grew which is almost black.

Growth Rate & Stages

They grow slowly (at about 1/5 of the rate of a human), but live to be about five hundred on average.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They need a balanced deit of food and water, just as a human does. Some may also need to consume Mana in order to grow their magical capabilities.

Additional Information

Social Structure

They have a council, a group of elves who were selected by the leader for their "intelligence, strength, or unique experiences of life." In recent history, however, this has not usually been the case. It is now more of a prestige based affair.   Then there are also the different "houses," which are further broken down into three tiers. First, there is the Yinali, Niali, and Erali houses. These houses are granted better privileges, and tend to lead to politicians or are nobles.   Then come the Ruari, Asari, Inari, and Benari houses. They are above the common folks, but tend to work for the upper houses.   The Liaren, Caren, and Brairen houses are looked down on by the others. They are better off than most human peasants, but as they don't know the difference, they don't complain.

Facial characteristics

Long and thin, with high cheekbones and strange, slanting eyes.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

They now live in small, sparce groups of villages across Eastern Ruwen.

Average Intelligence

Is equal to most human priests.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They can use and bend Mana to their will.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

At marriage, the couple will be granted an extra name each, to represent what is now part of them. E.g, Sillveth, & Ruinor. They will also be granted a new name after the birth of a child. The name is usually given to the mother, but there are exceptions. A name is also given to twins: The only time a name will be shared. A name may also be given when an apprenticeship is finished, or the person has accomplished something great.   When a child is born, it's name will be a combination of the parents's names, in any manner they see fit, although they typically use methods from their house.   Examples of female names: Evanlyn Tropia, Aglardis Sillveth, Ruineth Sharia   Examples of male names: Arndir Tharon, Angoldir Tharon, Halben Ruinor

Beauty Ideals

Blue magic is considered very beautiful, as is white skin.

Gender Ideals

Women are valued and respected as men are. Women are not expected to take outright political roles, although this is not unheard of. They are expected to settle down by the age of 100 and raise a family. Most women tend to settle down at about 75 years. Women are expected to take care of the agricultural duties.   Men are supposed to get most of the work done, and take care of the women, especially when it comes to political knowledge. That is very much considered the man's sphere, where as theology is considered the woman's knowledge. Not that either sex is not educated about the other. On the contrary, every elf should know about the basic principles of both.

Courtship Ideals

Courtship was done slowly-over a course of 5-10 years. However, with the decline in birthrate, it is speeding up to 0-5 years, and this is much looked down on by the older generation.

Relationship Ideals

The woman is expected to submit to her husband, but not to be lower than him. He is supposed to take care of her, and she is supposed to support him and bear his children in turn.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Common Dress Code

They have a very modest dress code. Women's tops are very rarely revealing. Dresses always go past the knees. Women usually do not wear pants unless they are with the military, in which they would wear a standard regulation uniform.   Men are rarely seen with their shirts off outside of the home. This is considered immodest if done otherwise.   Both sexes tend to wear long, flowing robes designed to combat the oppressive heat.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Weddings, funeral rites, the four seasons (eve of spring, summer solstice, dawn of autumn, and winter solstice), as well as the gods's holidays.

Common Taboos

Marrying outside of the elves is looked down on.

History

They are an old species, some say the first to walk the earth, others say the last, but the perfected ones. They themselves usually tell a tale of how a star and a dragon fell in love, and thus the first elf was created.   For the first 2050 years of the earth's life (or so recorded history says), the elves ruled supreme over the humans, with the ruler being much revered. Until year 5 TRotS. The humans were tired of the sylvan rule, and overthrew their rulers in year 0, leading to the rise of man.   Since then, the elves have struggled to keep their ways. They think they have succeeded, but they have not kept to the true ways.   In reality, they and the humans were once the same. The elves have buried that fact long before the Age of Men. Everyone thinks that the reason why the Ruwenian humans and the elves have so many cultural similarities is because the elves once ruled over them. That is part of it, but the other part is that the similarities are because they were once the same.   Once a human was given the gift to

Common Myths and Legends

The stories from the holy word, the Ballad of Lysor, and other assorted myths that I will get to later.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

They have very poor relations with the Ruwenian humans. Both try to look down on the other, despite the elves not being in a true position of power, thy try to hold on to the elder days-as if they were now.   They have a decent amount of trading & friendly politics with the Oliun humans via the trading outposts the elves have.   They also had poor relations with the dragons, never being able to trust them because of their shapeshifting abilities. They did much trading, but the politics were always rocking.   They live too far from the dwarves now to do any trading.   They do a minor bit of trading with a couple of halfling contacts, but not enough to call it "relations."

One cannot see the muscles inside through this skin, but when they blush, they do not flush pink. Whatever color their magic takes on, they will blush and bleed that color. There hair is either the same color, an adjacent color, or an opposite color on the color wheel, depending on their personality. Hair colors may shift during particularly turbulent times in life.
