Ubtao
Father of Dinosaurs, Founder of Mezro, God of Chult
Ubtao (oob-TAY-oh) was one of The Eres that presided over the creation of Naneth. While Ubtao did not have a hand in creating any of the world's dominant races, he spent his time creating great creatures of tooth and scale. Dinosaurs had been created in Naneth, and upon seeing the ferocity of the beasts, Eldath and Silvanus contained them to an Isle in the far south, an island that would later be named Chult. Angry that his children had been restricted to only a small portion of the created world, Ubtao also fled to the south, to the island, to watch over his children. Ubtao saw this as a sacrifice, he was giving up his power as a creator.
During the time of The Betrayal, Ubtao stayed in the southern regions, and did not take part in the conflict. He did not feel a responsibility towards either side, feeling betrayed by Eldath and Silvanus. When The Dead Three were banished and the other Eres left Naneth, Ubtao still remained. He would stay on this island, and watch over it, not abandon it's people and creatures as he felt the other Eres had.
During the Age of Fire, the island was left virtually untouched by Tiamat's tyrannical rule, and it's people praised Ubtao for this. Great cities sprang up during this period of peace; places like Omu, Nagalore and Ubtao's holy city; Mezro. This gave rise to Ubtao's Chosen, a group of Ubtao's most devoted followers, a group of seven. One of these followers was Ras Nsi; who in time would become Chult's greatest threat.
As the Age of Fire came to an end, the mists from Orphans Peak peak were released. It spread across Naneth, including the southern reaches. Ubtao attempted to protect the island, but without help from other Eres, he could not do so. He chose to protect Mezro alone, allowing other grand cities on the island to be devastated by the mists. For two thousand years, the mists remained over Naneth, until the Age of Renewal began. The island, now named Chult, awoke once more. Ubtao's Chosen; now lead by the immortal Ras Nsi, were angered that Ubtao would condemn most of the islands people to death. Ras Nsi; insane from two thousand years of waiting beneath the stone city of Omu, began a war against Mezro, raising hordes of undead against the city. Ubtao, unable to protect the city any further, abandoned it to ruin. Though the city was decimated, Ras Nsi was destroyed during the Siege of Mezro.
As the Age of Renewal continued, Ubtao began to lose faith and devotion from the inhabitants of Chult, with the renewed city of Omu completely turning their back to the god. They began worshiping other gods, partaking in heathen rituals that Ubtao considered immoral. This incensed Ubtao, as he believed he had sacrificed much as an all powerful Eres for this island. Finally, Ubtao left Chult, departing to an unknown location. Soon after, the leftover undead from Ras Nsi's campaign reclaimed the jungle, overrunning Nagalore, the ruins of Mezro, and eventually Omu itself.
