Blackbolts
Blackbolt is the collective name given to a group of explosive ammunition developed by Commander Orianna Kapetach on behalf of King Gelraak Cazir for the Crestguard. They show a significant improvement over any other explosive charge currently available.
Through decades of dedicated research, testing and experimentation, Orianna and her team of engineers and tinkerers have created a stable version of a heavy-duty bolt that detonates on impact with impeccable accuracy. It appears it was well worth the wait, this devastating offensive technology has decimated all attempted attacks and sieges in the last twenty years in Talia. Other more crude explosive projectiles lack the accuracy or range the blackbolts deliver, only allowing their use in combat in very specific situations. It is the combination of range, accuracy and power that makes them a force to be reckoned with.
The technology used to create these projectiles is well sought after and as such, well protected within the Crimson Citadel. Fortunatley, the eventual explosion melts and scatters the intricate parts beyond recognition helping to keep the Crestgaurd's secret safe from replication. Only the commanders and most trusted generals within the ranks are usually permitted to authorize the use of this type of ammunition, although it is said all members are trained how to use them in case of emergency.
Smaller and less powerful versions have been crafted in the form of arrows, widely used by all members of the guard. Despite not technically resembling bolts they still carry the name and are known as blackbolt arrows. The longbows used by the Crestguard are especially modified to support these arrows, incorrect use can result in an expensive and deadly mishap.
