Crystalfall

General Description

From the shoreline, a passer-by might not even know the village of Crystalfall existed at all. The upper levels sit slightly below sea level but once you venture slightly more inland a sprawling downward expanse awaits.

Geography & Layout

Crystalfall is a village that started on the island's surface but has expanded downwards as the rock and earth have been dug deeper each year in search of gemstones. This is thought to be the largest diamond and gemstone mine on Naru and as such is almost continuously fought over between the Aardragoon pirate factions.   As work progresses, new structures are made on the newer deeper levels while old structures closer to the surface are abandoned and left to the elements. The constant mining operations and removal of dirt, ores and rocks generate quite a lot of dust which coupled with strong wind makes for poor air quality and abrasive sand storms.

Culture

Most of the villagers are workers in the mine or security forces put in place by the current owner. Those who are unable to work the gruelling shifts simply choose not to live there and avoid the dangerous atmosphere altogether, it is not a place for children, the old or the weak.   Work is hard, and conditions are often unfavourable but the pay is incredibly good, which usually keeps the workers working. If too many people die or leave the island, others are recruited from the other isles with the promise of great fortune. The mining never stops at Crystalfall, the work machine always turning night and day.
