Before a member of
The Dark Tide can be promoted to Tide Captain they must undertake a ritual deep in the crater of the volcano Galeroth.
The Ritual
An opening roughly 50ft below the crater surface leads into a large cavern. A further passage, this time decorated with thick black slate tiles, takes you to a magnificent, towering dark doorway filled with odd carvings and etchings.
It is said that specific prayer and offering to the volcanic god Vuurgaan opens a gate to the realms of fire and brimstone, which the prospective captain must enter to face a challenge of strength and wisdom.
Those who have faced these trials and succeeded have spoken little about their ordeals, however, they return changed almost always emotionally but often physically as well, sporting numerous burns and scars. Several do not return at all and are presumed to have been overpowered by their fiery taskmaster and met their end.
The Gift
While the specific details of the ritual and the events that transpire on the other side of the gate remain shrouded in mystery, the magical power bestowed upon the captains is less subtle.
Forever connected with a fiery spirit, they are able to summon and command creatures of flame to do their bidding, often wreaking havoc on their enemies or those who might stand in their way.
