Walrath Hatchery

The Redcrest Mountains serves as a perfect secluded area for the breeding and training of dangerous beasts, the perfect location for the Walrath Hatchery. Operations are overseen directly by the Crestguard as well as a team of the very best specialised trainers, riders and breeders. Constructed in 3541 AC by Kyzekial Walrath whom the landmark is named and a large team of workers following several incidents in nearby settlements where escaped beasts ravaged and even destroyed entire villages.   The most visually striking feature of the hatchery is the immensely large iron dome, made with thousands of thick iron strands expertly woven together over decades by a myriad of metalworkers. It serves as a self-contained arena to allow beasts and their riders to practise and get used to combat and aerial manoeuvres while keeping them confined to the hatchery grounds. There are many smaller iron domes used for both housing some creatures and simulation of more cramped combat environments.   There are several other less impressive structures up in the mountains accompanying the dome, large halls that house nests and lairs of many different types of creatures, living quarters for staff and visitors and others for training exercises. Included in this is the Jorak Tower, standing hundreds of feet tall with many platforms and metal rings attached to the sides. The tower is used for aerial drills, practising speed and accuracy as well as the ability to avoid hazards at high speed, the ultimate test for prospective riders.   The primary creatures kept here include Griffons, Hippogriffs and Dragonnels but on rare occasions, Wyverns among other beasts are trained here. In addition to creatures to be used for mounts, the hatchery breeds several types of large birds to be used as couriers, battle companions or even pets for those who can afford them.   Once creatures are ready they depart the hatchery and are usually assigned and bonded with dedicated members of the Crestguard to serve as mounts and powerful allies in combat. These creatures are legendary throughout Naru for their fierce and loyal behaviour and powerful abilities, adding to the allure and impressive might of Talia.
