Zimroth
General Description
Zimroth is a town found on the northern coast of Roth Island, which sits in the southern regions of The Aardragoon Islands. The poorer parts of the town exist on floating raft-like structures that change position with the tide while those on the mainland are reserved for the rich and powerful. The land-based sections of the town (known as Zimroth Bay or just 'The Bay') are heavily fortified and feature long rows of projectile defences that can be seen from miles away.Geography & Layout
There are two large and lengthy stone walls that stretch from either side of Zimroth and extend into the sea, curving around to make a very effective coastal defence system. This prevents a lot of the harsh waves from reaching the town and also controls where ships can come and go. Much of the common day-to-day takes place in the drifts, the name given to the floating sections of the town. The structures all generally have solid foundations in the rock below and walkways that adjust with the sea levels and feature ladders from the rocks to the rooftops. When the tide changes, the creaking of the shifting and colliding wood can be almost deafening. Around half of the town is based on land and completely encircled by towering stone walls and towers. This is where you will find Cavello Square with specialized traders, upmarket merchants, and the fortress of The Dark Tide which sits directly in the center of everything.Culture
The Dark Tide rule with a harsh code that keeps the townsfolk and their warriors in line. Goods and services are heavily marked up here due to the taxation that the tide claim from the traders and it is relatively easy to find yourself on the wrong side of the law. There are numerous tales of visitors being thrown in jail and held for a ransom or bribe for their release.History
Prior to the Dark Tide's takeover in 3903, Roth Island and Zimroth specifically were ruled by an elven king named Faelar who reigned for over 200 years in relative peace. He was slain in the battle to defend his lands against Vortac's dark warriors. There are no records relating to the island or its settlements before Faelar's rule.Fish
