Session XIV: Awaited Arrival Report

General Summary

Our party sails into the seas to find the portal to the Feywild Astrophel marked on their map. They sail for a few days and begin learning the ropes of marine vehicle handling taught by the captain. On the third day of their travels they had a little crisis with a maelstrom that was averted thanks to Kiber's rapid action.

When the night fell, Genzaburo sighted something in the distance. The group decided to investigate and found out the thing he saw was a man floating on top of a gryphon. They helped him out of the water and he turned out to be Caleb, an old acquaintance of Medan and Kiber, as well as the apprentice of the master of crows. Caleb explained that he was in a rush to deliver a message to the viceroy when he was attacked by some sort of tentacle. He went over the situation back at the empire and nursed his gryphon as he hummed an odd tune. Malaveth asked the young man to deliver a message, to which he agreed and went on his way.

When they reached the spot designated by the map, they found nothing but water. Kiber decided to ask her matron on what might be the reason for the portal not to be there. Aurora clarified that the portal was missing moonlight and so they waited.

The portal appeared at night, leading them into the world of the faerie where a regal looking black cat was awaiting their arrival. Chesire, as was the cat's name, explained that in order to meet with her lady they would have to overcome a set of trials. The first trial consisted in following Chesire to the trial grounds without losing sight of him. Genzaburo failed to keep up with the group and got lost in the middle of the forest where a group of crystal-spider-looking began questioning him. They asked if they could get their name to which Genzaburo doubtfully replied, losing his name and memories of it in the process.

After they got reunited, the second trial began. A set of two statues said that they had three questions to determine which of the two doors beside them would lead them to the next trial. They said one of them only told the truth and the other one only lied. They asked their questions and proceeded to open the right door but, for their surprise, the door didn't work and it applied a quirky curse on them. They tried several ways until Malaveth found a door in the middle of the wall that was covered by an illusion.

On the third trial, two little creatures that introduced themselves as Sun and Moon said that they would have to fight themselves. Subsequently, they dissapeared and a ghastly looking shadow materialized on the middle of the room. The shadow began attacking the group but, when they struck back the damage they inflicted on the creature magically transfered to them. They began to break a set of mirror's that where in the room until Nabitaro noticed that the creature's reflection was different than it should. He deftly struck where the mirror images aligned and slew the real creature.

Sun and Moon appeared once again and commended them for passing the test, after which they fused into a new being, Eclipse, who described itself as an avatar of Titania.

Rewards Granted

After each trial the party was awarded an especial magical item. For the first they got a coin with the ability to twist one's fate. The second one left them wit a set of two rings, one with the symbol of a sun and another with the symbol of a moon. This rings allow communication between the two wearers. Finally, the third and last trial awarded them with a fey coat with conscience that swears to protect it's wearer from harm.
