Deephammer

The political underpinnings of Deephammer reach back many centuries, but the comparatively recent unification of Dwarven society can be attributed to a collective response to the threats of Drow incursions. Of the five member states that comprise Deephammer, one clan is chosen every six years through a combat trial to wield executive power via the Executorship over the other states. This combat is known as the Trial of Stone, and the only stipulation is that each clan chooses a champion save the one currently holding the Executorship, and that the last champion left alive wins glory for themselves and power for their clan.   Despite this bloody approach to political power, balance has kept reasonably well across the last few centuries through councils among the member states mostly evening out their differences through careful diplomacy.   Inhabiting the blend of rolling hills and rocky mountains of Aeshlaron, the dwarves of Deephammer are a hearty people. Racial minorities of Goliath, Halflings, and Gnomes enjoy legal and economic equality, but are largely shut out of political life. As a whole, the state is wary of outside influence, and jealously guard the treasures they create.

Values

Family and clan are important to the dwarves of Deephammer. Equally important are honor and honesty; “A Dwarf’s Word is His Bond” is a common saying in Deephammer. Cultural heroes of Deephammer often go through great trials to fulfill the pledges of their forebears, or enact vengeance upon the dishonest who have wronged them.   Dwarven society is tremendously patriarchal publicly, but they hold a significant respect for motherhood, and gender dynamics domestically run significantly more equal.

Agriculture & Industry

Mining and herding are the primary industries within Deephammer. Roving flocks of sheep and dairy-rams are led across the mountains of Aeshlaron, providing wool, meat, and dairy products to feed and clothe the citizens of Deephammer.
