Manchu Repelling Operation

And thus, we decree that all in this land, be they man or woman, black as night or white as day or anything in between, are equals under heaven.
— Closing line of Tangguo Independence Speech.

The Conflict

Prelude

Having heard of the Manchus oppressing Han Chinese in their homeland due to relayed messages, and that the Qing Empire was chasing after the New World too, the leaders of Xiyang's states all banded together to seek alliance to preserve their liberty.

They managed to convince the British and Spanish to ally with them and lend firepower in preparation for battle, despite the European nations' initial tensions over the New World. The stakes were if Qing managed to conquer Tangguo, European nations would lose another possible trading site.

Deployment

The warring forces were deployed to coastal cities in Tangguo, owing to the people's familiarity with the sea.

Battlefield

This was a countrywide war.

Outcome

The remains of the Qing fleet beat a hasty retreat to the Caribbean before sailing back to China to report to the emperor.

Aftermath

Xiyang Tangguo officially established the country's independence on 7 July 1777, but were saddled with a large debt to their European allies that is still being paid off today.

The exact total loss of life is unknown, but presumably many soldiers on both sides died of illness rather than direct combat.

Historical Significance

As a result of this war, the Tang States is the only Chinese outpost that retains the pre-Manchurian aesthetic in its historical collections.

Tangguo citizens and mainland Chinese have a mutual dislike of each other, though after many generations, this dislike cooled down into ribbing each other over history.

Legacy

Several notable war heroes emerged, especially the first gunsinger, a young woman surnamed Chuah with unerringly accurate shot.

Due to the contribution of men and women of various ethnic backgrounds, the national constitution included provisions for gender and racial equality, though it would take much longer for black people to be accepted by the public at large.

In Literature

Gunsinger Chuah was compared to The Flower General due to fighting and acting like a man during the Manchu Repelling Operation.

Technological Advancement

Due to gunfire being developed in Tangguo in pace with European improvements, the Qing soldiers had trouble against upgraded rifles and muskets.
