Birth of the Lightkeepers

This collective of engineers would use The Lighthouse to design and build the first prototype of a next-generation, fully armored robotic exoskeletal suit, armed with advanced weapons, and designed to integrate directly with soldiers neural implants to enhance their capabilities even further.
Guardian Frameswere born, and the first fleet of Knights went into production.
Humans were not ready to make the same mistakes as they once did, and would no longer rely on mindless machines to do their bidding without extreme oversight, so a new program was born of the enhanced soldiers and this bleeding edge of military tech.
Potential pilots for these Guardian Frames were subjected to extreme trials. Only a select few were able to handle both the physical demands of operating the weapons platform and the mental exertion required from the MIND Link to synchronize with it. The experimental training only had less than a 1% success rate, but those who could survive and use these extremely advanced tools were given a new title - Lightkeepers.
The success of the Guardian Frame project led to the establishment of Lightkeeper squadrons across Luna and Earth with outposts being built in every major population center. Over the next 50 years, Lightkeeper pilots along with a fleet of  warships would use their Knights to combat the [Martian attacks and keep them at bay. The conflict dragged on with intermittent skirmishes and appeared to be locked in a stalemate. Life went on, and humanity continued to grow.
And then, in 2869, the unthinkable happened.
