Adventurer's Guild
Powerful monsters roam Lothal, which is what attracted many aspiring individuals to the land long before the country’s founding. This caused the Adventurer's Guild to spring up long before the country was formally founded. The major cities were all built around the guild halls during the last 50 years, although some were already town-sized due to the Guild’s influence. The adventurers and military now keep the peace in the more civilized country, living in a delicate harmony with nature.
The guild's duty, first and foremost, is to hunt monsters and other threats to the communities of Lothal. In emergency situations, the military can call on the guild for assistance (and they are expected to comply). Nergalee, the Guildmaster, and King Paul Shapechanger are old comrades from the War of Sea and Sky and maintain a loose friendship. The guild also boosts the economy by uncovering lost treasures scattered around Lothal's wilderness.
A general bounty is paid for by the guild, with some help from government funding, for each monster an adventurer slays. Monster parts or battle trophies are acceptable proof; the guild has detection methods to ensure only one bounty is paid per kill. If a dungeon is cleared out, the guild will send a secondary team to the site to count the dead and confirm reports. Adventurers are expected to only hunt problem monsters, not kill everything that moves and destroy ecosystems. People can also request specific jobs from the guild, which often include additional rewards. These jobs can be traditional monster hunting but also include mercenary work. Members are expected to take at least 1 job (or turn in 1 bounty) per month.
There are 5 guild ranks: Trainee, Copper, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
Trainees undertake quests alongside a Gold-ranked adventurer so they don't die, graduating to Copper at their tutor's discretion.
Graduating to Silver requires passing the Trial of the Elements at the Guildhall and is rewarded with a magic weapon. These magic weapons are made by journeymen taking promotion exams in the blacksmith, fletcher, and mage guilds.
Becoming Gold-ranked requires a show of skill, slaying a great monster, or some equal measure of valor and is awarded by the Guild Council.
Platinum adventurers make up the Guild Council. The council votes to promote Gold adventurers from time to time.
The Adventurer's Guild works with many other guilds (blacksmiths, alchemists, and more) to get goods and services cheaper. Some other guilds even have their facilities on Guild land since adventurers make up so much of their clientele. It annoys the leadership of other guilds that most people mean the Adventurer's Guild when they say "the Guild".
There are also several subsections within the guild:
- Bards: Truesong Bards
- Monks: Monks of the Five Spires
- Paladins: Silverpaw Paladins
- Rangers: Gladeborn Rangers
- Arcane Magic Users: Azure Sorcerers
