Captain Elgar

Captain Elgar was a beholder pirate that scoured the Astral Plane with his crew in their beholder-shaped spelljammer, the Jeweled Eye. Their ship came to Nexus when they detected the activation of the Venture's magic engine, attacking the ship with the intention of seizing the engine as their prize. Unfortunately for them, Captain Eugene Reynolds had armed his ship with a magic cannon powered by a fire elemental. A single shot was all it took to deal severe damage to the Jeweled Eye, leaving the pirates stranded in orbit as they began to make repairs.
Elgar rarely left his ship during his time on Nexus, preferring to send his officers out while he supervised the repairs to their vessel. He was first seen by the Venture Boys attending a magic item auction with Arachnor and Mathayas, where he purchased a ring of protection. Arachnor spent the time there informing Elgar of the what the Vengeance Coven had told him about Gibbidubbus, leading Elgar to order Mathayas to take Gyaos and attack their ship for confirmation. Shortly thereafter, he beamed back to the Jeweled Eye with Arachnor.
Not wanting to leave Nexus without Gibbidubbus as their prize but not wishing to fight a deity, Elgar made a plan to kill the kuo-toa of the Ashes Archipelago and cut off the source of Gibbidubbus' magical powers. Elgar led the charge himself, scattering his minions across the island to hunt down stragglers while he focused on the kuo-toa's main village with Arachnor and Gyaos.
After sending Arachnor into the tunnels of the kuo-toa village, Elgar went to a nearby hillside and started using his disintegration ray to dig down into their warrens. It was here that the Venture Boys surrounded and ambushed the beholder captain. Save for Gyaos, his minions were fairly easily dispatched by the adventurers. Despite the minimal useful help, Elgar proved to be an incredibly powerful combatant that managed to kill Erica Weez the IX & N64 and wound Althea Filanes & Bakris Tarak to the point of near-death before Vinnie Vice | Adventures Ahoy, on his last legs, unleashed a supercharged bolt of magical lightning that destroyed the pirate aberration.
