Great Library of Vincera Tal Verei
The halls of Tal Verei contain rows upon rows of books and scrolls as high as the ceiling, long ladders are needed to access much of the information. Some say it contains the complete repository of all collected knowledge and is continually updated thru the divine magic of the God Deneir, the first scribe. One thing is sure however, it would take many human lifetimes to read everything contained within.
The Library is tended by, and under the protection of, the glyph-scribes of the church of Deneir; the old God of art, cartography, glyphs, images, knowledge, literature and scholars. It is under the direction of Head Librarian Cadderly Bonaduce, who also leads the clergy of Deneir.
Many noble houses send their children under tutelage both to the Library and to Dance of Crowns to get a complete and formal education.
Architecture
The Great Library is an impressive multi storied complex resembling a cathedral with massive stained glass windows, letting enough light in to illuminate even the furthest recesses of it's halls. The building is majestic, with soaring towers, flying buttresses and a gutter system ending at every corner with an exotic gargoyle. The Great Library's domed roof is more than a hundred feet from the ground and three of the towers reach to more than twice that height. A grove of trees lines a cobble-stoned walkway that leads to massive front doors. The Library also has a courtyard with a thick and rich lawn, bordered by perfectly shaped hedgerows and filled with various flower beds and adorned with several bushes shaped into the likeness of various woodland animals.
History
A great scholar and chosen of the old god Deneir, Vincera Tal Verei was divinely inspired to create a magnificent building where all of acquired knowledge could be stored and consulted, taught and learned; a place where his God could be worshiped and thanked for the gift given to humanity. He used his mortal coil to channel the pure unfiltered divine energy from Deneir and magically created the Great Library from scratch stone by stone. Unlike the creation of The Great Lighthouse the magical energies were not channeled thru powerful artifacts, they were channeled rather thru Vincera's own body. The strain it put on him made his body age prematurely: as he built, he aged. He aged so much and so fast that it became quite clear to him that his life would be at an end with the completion of the Great Library-Cathedral; even knowing the cost he pushed on, willing to sacrifice his body for his god and for future generations. In the end, placing the last stone on the pinnacle of the domed roof, Tal Verei appeared over a hundred years old, it proved too much for the man and he died just as he was ushered inside his newly completed work.
