Atresa

The former seat of power of the Atresan Empire, Atresa now serves as one of the foremost trading ports in Kalin and the capital of the state sharing its name.    Atresa lies at the mouth of the Meridionali River, where it splits into several small rivers and tributaries before feeding into the Eastern Sea. This position gives it its powerful trading position, with all seaborne trading vessels heading north up the Meridionali River needing to pass through its harbor.   Atresa is also the origin point of the Guild Compact, and many notable guilds and companies still maintain their registries in the city.

Demographics

The city is mostly one of commerce and trade, with many working-class people either working directly for the various docks and related unions/guilds, or as support for them. Trading companies, merchants, and similar professions are also common. Those that aren't working class usually consist of executives for trading companies and wealthy merchants. Racially, the city is mostly made up of Humans, Wood Elves, and Half-Orcs.

Government

Atresa serves as the State Capital of the titular Union State of Atresa. It is ruled by the Primor, an elected position chosen by the 13 "Prime Lords" of Atresa, technically elected local politicans which are, in practice, hereditary. The Primor serves both as the leader of the state, and the functional leader of the city itself, though much of the actual administrative and day-to-day work is handed off to subordinates.

Defences

The city is mostly defended by a series of old forts surrounding it at various points, as well as by the might of the Union navy.

History

Atresa suffered more than most during The Return at the end of the Second Age, which is saying something. Atresa was destroyed almost utterly during the Return, and further destroyed during the penultimate battle of the Fall of the Return, which took place in Atresa.   It took focused effort from various Druidic Circles, Mage groups, and more to even make the earth livable once again. Then it took even more effort from the newly forming Union and its allies to rebuild the city. Luckily, most of the continent saw the rebuilding and revitalization of Atresa as a statement of defiance against the horrors of the Return.

Points of interest

The city holds the Shrine to LimKin, an ancient shrine built from stone all the way from Wahar. It was built in cooperation between Atresan Architects and Waharian Tortles to honor the member of the Blessed Dead who gave their lives to help save all of creation. It is often visited by many Mantle faithful, tourists, and is often the primary destination for Tortles, when they do visit.
