The White Owls

Under the Haladendrin of Guardianship (the military arm of Palnoré) The White Owls are the elite guardians of the island of Palnoré and the chosen of Palnor.   To be a White Owl is a hard road. To start with, one must already be a Palnori-Iral, or a Palnori-Bonded. This is the technical term of the Knights of Palnoré who have bonded with a Palnori, one of the giant Owls of Palnoré. This leaves the recruitment pool already very small. To be a White Owl one must be chosen by the Yetari, the leader of the Aarakocra of Palnoré. This is a rare circumstance where the Aarakocra take an interest in the "physical" matters of state, which is part of why being chosen to be a White Owl is such a huge honor.   Once chosen a White Owl undergoes a spiritual ritual known as "Iri O'an ea Aria" or "The Joining of Spirits." This is an extremely secretive ritual, and only chosen members of the Haladetari and the Yetari are privy to it.   Once one becomes a White Owl the appointment is for life, and since every White Owl is an Elf that can mean a long time. The White Owls don their distinctive white armor and are responsible for the guarding of the Yetari and Yedrin, the leaders of Palnoré. They also perform important missions for the Yetari and Yedrin, acting as their reach into the world beyond leadership. Those who aren't guarding the Yetari and Yedrin, or on special assignment, usually spend their time amongst their brothers and sisters or traveling Palnoré to defend its people against hostile creatures of the forest or invaders.   On rare occasion White Owls in small numbers will leave Palnoré, either on special assignment or on special dispensation of the Yedrin or Yetari.

Structure

Every member of the White Owls is equal to the other, with them only reporting to the Yetari and Yedrin directly. That said though, older members of the order are often given deference and are sought after to either settle disagreements or handle important decisions.
