"We are hereby resolved with this gathering, that the education and proliferation of magical knowledge and understanding shall be communal and not restricted by race or financial status, nor shall the driving force of education be profit or power. All who wish to learn may be given the opportunity to try, and all who learn shall share the fruits of their knowledge." - Schola Magus Charter Excerpt.

Magic users in Kalin found themselves in an interesting predicament in the Second Age. While magic knowledge and education flourished under the rule of the Torva’Ir it found itself slowly waning in the new age as magic power was consolidated under individual wizards, court mages, and the like.   To combat this a large group of magic users and more convened at an event called “The Assemblage of Mages”. Their goal was to ensure that magical teaching and knowledge would not slowly dwindle in the world due to selfishness. While Guilds of Mages existed, they were too insular for the Assemblages liking, and too profit driven.   To this end they created the Schola Magus, an academy for the education and knowledge of magic and all its uses.   The Schola Magus was placed deep underground, in a region only accessible to those with the magical ability to create portals there. It stood as a place of magical learning and records for centuries until its destruction and reformation at the end of the second age.
