The War of Plain and Mountain and the Following Interregnum

Military action

1680 1A - 1712 1A

"As long as I am King and Emperor of the Elves we shall know war, and I shall drive Dwarven-Kind from this land for the betrayal and cowardice displayed by your race.” - Corai
"No King Rules Forever" -Fimud Firestone

Famously, in his declaration of war the Elven Emperor wrote "As long as I am King and Emperor of the Elves we shall know war, and I shall drive Dwarven-Kind from this land for the betrayal and cowardice displayed by your race.” He sent this message to Fimud Firestone, the most powerful Dwarven King at the time.   The response from Fimud read simply “No king rules forever.”   While the military might of the Torva was considerable, pride led Corai and his commanders to underestimate the hardy and strong Dwarves. After about 12 years of back and forth warfare the final battle of the war took place at Eir-Bron, the realm of Fimud Firestone himself.   The battle, often known as Corai's Ultimate Folly, was an all-or-nothing gambit. The battle quickly went awry as Corai's Younger Race Auxiliary abandoned him for the Dwarves. Enraged Corai fought a titanic battle with Fimud Firestone himself, and after a duel that Bards have not stopped writing about to this day, Fimud caved in Corai's breastplate and threw him from the ramparts of Eir-Bron, ending the war.   With Corai’s sudden death, and no heir to the Torva’Ir throne apparent, the Torva’Ir fell into anarchy. Individual kingdoms and Immortal Cities claimed supremacy and fought for scraps of power.   The Dwarves, having firmly won the war (though at a cost) went back to their mountains. While they did take some more territory to the north as a prize they had little interest and delving into the chaos the rest of the lands suffered. In fact in the wake of the war the Dwarves found themselves more united than ever, forming the Council of Realms, which would eventually morph into the Dwarven Confederacy.   The chaotic interregnum would last until an ambitious Warlock named Morlin came to the forefront of history.
