Lorn
Lorn is a Large Town in Southern Emic. It was founded after Eroth had given up control of the region, but before Emic had become a country of its own. It was founded by a Soldier the town is named for who deserted the army of a warlord that he was fighting in, due to being ordered to slay refugees.
Lorn is a logging town. While the land around it is fertile enough to grow food that supports the town, the town's main income is from supplying the cities of Emic with wood.
The people of Lorn are tough and are proud of their independent nature.
Demographics
Lorn is mostly human, but there is a small halfling community in town and here and there you find the occasional dwarf of elf/half-elf.
The people of Lorn are considered lower class, but they are pretty self sufficient and there is little poverty. There are a few merchant families and others who have done especially well and the Lornson family is by far the richest of them, though they maintain a mostly humble lifestyle.
Government
The Lornson family is the ruling family, and can trace their heritage from the founder himself. The oldest male heir holds the title of Lord Lornson, and is the highest authority in the city. The family has a reputation of honesty and each of the lords has always strived themselves on being a member of the town, working with the townspeople, either in the fields or the woods.
Defences
Lorn has a wooden stockade wall whoes gate is rarely closed. It has about a dozen guardsman that work for the Lornsons to patrol the city, and houses a small barracks of regional Soldiers. These soldiers are responsible for patrolling the road between Halan and Lorn, and helping with trouble from non local threats. While Lorn pays for their upkeep, they are answerable to the council of Emic.
Industry & Trade
Lorn's biggest industry is lumber logged from the Godswood. The logs are cut in the city at one of several saw mills and shipped to other parts of Emic via caravan.
History
The city was founded in 342 after the region was abandoned by Eroth but before the forming of Emic. There were many small regions that sprang up during that time, controlled by one warlord or another, striving to conquer the region. A soldier in one of the armies fighting for control was ordered to kill a group of refugees who had fled an opposing town. That soldier, known as Lorn, refused the order and turned his sword upon his commander. He then led the refugees to the edge of the godwood. There they settled and Lorn helped them learn to defend themselves. As people heard of the town that was not taking place in the internal fights, many fled to it. People were willing to fight to protect their home, but did not want to die for some warlord trying to take the region. Several would be conquerors tried to take Lorn, but the people had always pushed them back, thanks in large part to Lorn who was a master tactician and expert swordsman. Eventually the fighting died down and the cities of hat is now known as Emic formed an alliance. Lorn was asked to join and became a part of Emic in 360.
