Wallacian Campaign Session #24

General Summary

Abbreviated session due to low turnout.   While in Westport, Koravhik stated his goal to one day purchase a full set of plate armor. He has never actually seen a full set of plate armor in person, as it is not popular in Wallacia. However, he has heard descriptions of it from people who have journeyed overseas.   Retcon: Back when the party met with Countess Thorrindal, Koravhik stated a desire to commision a magical melee weapon that does bludgeoning damage. The Countess gave him the names of two smiths/enchanters who might be willing to craft such a weapon, for a price. However, both were out of town at the moment:
  • A dwarven woman with a forge in the Dwarven Stair neighborhood of Blackrock named Larrendir Silverthumb.
  • A human male wizard going by the name of Edmund Taylahr, associated with the Westport Academy.
Checking around Westport, and reading the previously-sealed letter from Harbin Wester to the Westport constable, the party discovered that "Black Bart's" bounty was 300 gold, but the letter instructed the constable to give the party only 100, and deposit the other 200 gold in Harbin's bank account. Bart is wanted "dead or alive", but his bounty is only 150 gold if he is not breathing. Other Haskills with "alive only" bounties include:
  • Jethro - 100 gold
  • Ellie Mae - 100 gold
  • Big Ed - 200 gold
  • Alvin - 150 gold
  • Roy - 75 gold
  • Jessie - 80 gold
  • Leroy - 80 gold
Koravhik purchased 9 sets of iron manacles. He already had one additional set.   Silvermoon detailed a new tactic to the rest of the party. She has learned a new spell which makes patches of ground dangerous to traverse. She said that if she yells "Avoid the ground in front!" of an enemy, they should instead avoid the ground behind the enemy, and vice versa. This reversal of directions will also apply to left, right, etc.   Although both Almalexia and Riswynn have prior contacts with shipping concerns in Westport, they were unable to secure passage for the party up river. Instead, Val made the rounds of the docks looking for a boat heading up the Red River. He found a keelboat named the "Red Queen" owned and operated by Captain McNair, an grey haired/bearded human male.   When Val explained that they wanted to be dropped off near the Haskill territory, the Captain grew suspicious and asked further questions. When Val told him the party were bounty hunters, the Captain seemed to accept that. He said that he would have to drop them off well away from known settlements, as he makes frequent trips up the Red River, and does not want to provoke revenge from the remaining Haskills for whatever the party does to them. He also asked the party to arrive before dawn the following morning, and try not to be seen either boarding or on deck before they got well away from port.   The party believes that they did not draw attention to themselves as they boarded the keelboat the following morning.   It was a cool, overcast, drizzly day when they left port and turned north toward the mouth of the Arle River. A couple hours into their journey, their keelboat was met by a Wallacian military longship. It was a customs inspection, and the party overheard some of the soldiers discussing the contraband they were checking for. The soldiers were checking for smuggled weapons and/or slaves. The party recalled that the Cragmaw clan orcs they had recently encountered were armed with weapons of unusual quality for primitive orc tribes. The weapons were in rough Valaran style, as though someone got a hold of Valaran military weapons before the last few stages of crafting were completed.   The next several days of travel were uneventful, though it is clear that autumn is rapidly approaching. We rejoin the party as they near their destination on the Red River.
