Niflheim Empire

The Empire currently controls the entirety of the Eastern Continent, and attempted to conquer the Western Continent - a campaign which ended twenty five years ago when Emperor Varis deemed it best to cut their losses. It is now known that Niflheim prioritized conquering lands that hold ruins of the ancient Avalon Empire - which once spanned both continents.

History

The nation of Niflheim consisted of the north-western section of the Eastern Continent, its capital Gralea at the center of the nation, built over the remains an ancient city dating back to the Avalon Empire. Niflheim was once a republic that shared cordial relations with its neighbors on the Eastern Continent and maintained trade with Frigia and the nations of the Western Continent. This changed roughly 50 years prior to current events - Niflheim suddenly began developing technology that blended magic and machine, referred to as "Magitek". This Magitek consisted of everything from tools to improve day to day life and tools of war - vehicles, weapons, armor etc. With this Magitek enhancing their military strength the current Chancellor began a campaign to unite the Eastern Continent under one banner.   The Boz'ja Highlands quickly fell under Niflheim's rule, as the myriad and scattered nomadic tribes of the region were not able to able to form a unified front in time to hold off Niflheim's new technology. This conquest took less than one year.   With the tribes of Boz'ja conscripted into their already powerful military, Niflheim's gaze turned to the island nation to the northeast - the Moonflow Islands. The Moonflow Islands islands were able to put up much more resistance, their powerful naval fleet was able to lessen the advantages of Niflheim's Magitek. During this time skirmishes began to take place with the Elven kingdom of The Sun Plains in the south, the elves not willing to simply wait for Niflheim's forces to focus on them.   These conflicts lasted five years, with the elven kingdom managing to liberate a portion of Boz'ja from Niflheim, while Niflheim had only managed to secure one of the smaller islands that make up Moonflow. It was at this point that Niflheim's newest Magitek creation was deployed: airships. These vessels were as large as any naval ship, with comparable armament, but able to soar through the sky at speeds more than double what a seabound ship could manage. These airships quickly turned the tide from stalemate to victory, as Niflheim's forces were able completely circumvent the defenses of their opponents.   The last area of the Eastern Continent to fall under Niflheim rule was The Blind Forest of Yx'maja - the domain of the Wood Elves. Having seen the power of Niflheim's military, their council willingly signed a treaty that would annex the forest as part Niflheim in exchange for retaining the majority of their sovereignty. It was at this point that Chancellor Varis declared himself the Emperor.   The next fifteen years were spent solidifying Niflheim's rule of the continent. This time is what allowed the nations of the Western Continent to build up the defenses that allowed them to repel Niflheim's attempted invasion which last for four years - ending twenty five years ago when the emperor deemed the strain of fighting a war so far away with the current limitations of their Magitek to be too great.
