Stonehewers Guild
Overview
The Stonehewers Guild is a worker-run federation of miners who provide every raw material mined beneath Novus. The guild organizes round the clock labor shifts to retrieve coal, iron, copper, and other precious metals from deep beneath Novus and Mount Abregoth. The guild is large comprised of dwarven workers, though membership os not restricted by race. The guild exists to serve as an advocate between the workers ruling institutions like the Brass Ring of Novus, ensuring that miner are treated fairly. To do so, they collect dues from miners to help advance their political goals. Naturally, this has also led to a level of corruption within the guild, with many workers feeling betrayed by the organization meant to protect them.
The Stonehewers Guild is placed into an odd position when unrest exists within the miners. Their primary function is to ensure the continued flow of material, which requires miners who are willing to work. When the miners strike, they are not just fighting against the Brass Ring, but also often against the guild itself. Sometime however, the guild will stir up unrest amongst the miners simply to be united in purpose against the Brass Ring.
The Stonehewers Guild is probably the largest guild in Novus by membership enrollment, but seeing as the guild requires membership for access to the transport services that take miners to mines, these numbers may be somewhat inflated, especially since many of the other guilds do not have such an ironfisted control over their constituents.
The the guild is deeply mired in politics, many within guild leadership positions earnestly care for the well being of miners (most being miners themselves at one point). To this end, they will sometimes commission adventurers to clear out hazards that are a threat to the mines or the workers within, as there are many deep dwelling dangerous creatures.
