Nabī

The ancient, hulking beastfolk of Ruatiwanga's deepest jungles and forests, said to be the progenitors of all life on the continent

"...was that a bloody ape? This whole continent's loony!"   "Shut your gob before they hear you, for Emperor's sake. That's a Nabī, I think they call them."   "Why are they using that word, then...? Jaddi? I thought that meant grandfather, in their tongue? You tellin' me a bloody ape birthed all these things??"   "How the hell should I know? I think it's a term of respect - I think they call all of them that. We're lucky to even see one - apparently they don't make appearances much."   "...yeah. This whole continent's loony, alright."
— Conversation between two Ironite Tourists in the Ruatiwangan City of A'ufaga

Base Racial Traits

Ability Score Modifiers: (+4 Strength, +2 Wisdom, +2 Charisma): Nabī are terrifyingly strong and deceptively wise, with a force of personality to match.   Size: Nabī are large-sized creatures, and gain all the corresponding bonuses and penalties.   Type: Nabī are monstrous humanoids with the Nabī subtype.   Speed: Nabī have a base land speed of 30ft and a climb speed of 30ft.   Vision: Nabī have Darkvision out to 120ft, Scent 120ft, and Thoughtsense 30ft.   Languages: Nabī begin play speaking the Regional Language that best suits their origins(See Languages of Numiastra), and Old Druidic. Nabī with high INT can select from Chotaran, Bhaduran, Tiwanga, Low Ironite, Haakturan, Aklo, and Sylvan as Bonus Languages.   Psionic Suture: Born with abnormal brains that imbue them with terrifying mental power, Nabī gain Telepathy(120ft) and can read the mind of a single creature within 30ft they can see as per Detect Thoughts as a standard action - this functions as a Supernatural Ability, as it is a result of their Psionic Power, and functions regardless of mental immunities so long as the target has a self-aware Psyche/Mind to read. By spending a full-round in physical contact with a willing or helpless creature, a Nabī can remove one of their languages and/or add a language that the Nabī themselves has to their list by force so long as the target creature has an INT of 3 or greater. If they cannot normally speak, this allows them to understand the language but not speak it.   Arboreal Hammers: Nabī gain two slam attacks as primary natural attacks that begin play dealing 1d8 Bludgeoning Damage with a x2 critical. They may add 1.5x their STRMOD to both of these slam attacks. They may make free a Bull Rush Attempts on a struck target that does not provoke attacks of opportunity, and has the distance it moves them doubled.   Primordial Ward of Ashaara-al-Azir: Though their ancient empire collapsed long ago, the Nabī retain the favor of the land's nature spirits and gain DR 10 that can only be overcome by Wooden or other Non-Metallic Weapons. Additionally, Nabī add 20 to their STR score for the purpose of Carrying Capacity.   Keepers of the Codex: One of the oldest races on the planet of Ea, the Nabī are so unfathomably ancient that within their deepest sanctums is said to reside a Codex gifted to them by the Primordial Races near the dawn of time itself - and as a result, are blessed with knowledge all but forgotten elsewhere. Nabī, thanks to this, gain the Bardic Knowledge class ability using their Hit Die in place of Class Level. Additionally, once per day, they may draw upon their supernatural connection to the codex to scribe a scroll as per scribe scroll of any spell level they could cast from the Psychic spell list as if they were Psychics of their HD without spending GP to do so.   Supersonic Toss: Nabī gain the Rock Throwing and Rock Catching Universal Monster Rules. Their Rock Throwing ability allows them to throw rocks(Defined as any relatively regularly sharped object of any material with a hardness of 5 or greater) that deal 2d6 + 1.5x STRmod B/P/S Damage with a x2 critical and a range increment of 30ft. By throwing a rock as a full-round action instead, a Nabī can multiply the range increment by x10 and double the Rock's Damage Dice(2d6 -> 4d6) by allowing them to use 'rocks'(Defined as above) up to their size.   Masters of Terror: Few things are as frightening as an adult Nabī - whose psionic prowess and natural physicality allow them to terrorize those nearby with impunity. Nabī gain Intimidate as a class skill if it weren't already, and gain Intimidating Prowess as a bonus feat. They also gain the Mythic Dazzling Display Feat as a bonus feat ignoring prerequisites(Which counts as the Dazzling Display Feat for other prerequisites) that functions by default with their Slam Attacks unless they have Weapon Focus.   Mystical Masters: In a dying world slowly losing its wonder and mysticism, Nabī stand as unmatched masters of both - they can use Scrolls and Wands ignoring prerequisites for spell lists and spellcaster types, using their Wisdom as the ability score if required. They always succeed at their Use Magic Device rolls to use such items, and can may activate such items without triggering Circuitbleed. Additionally, if they successfully identify a magic item worn by another creature within 60ft that they can see that has an ability that can be activated, the Nabī can as a standard action forcibly activate the worn item's effects if they succeed on a contested CL check with the target(Using HD in place of CL for non-casters).   Severed Strings: Having cast aside their ancestral gifts to preserve their very existence, the Nabī have developed a twisted inversion of the gifts they once possessed - and have gained the ability to cast Awaken as a 1/day Spell-Like Ability using their HD as their Caster Level. This spell triggers circuitbleed unless cast over the course of 24hrs and unless the Nabī casting it either takes 1 Con Drain or has 1 other sentient creature aiding them in the ritual for all 24hrs per HD of the creature they wish to awaken(Approximating for plants).   Vile Remnant: Nabī gain a Charm Person as a SLA 3/day with a Caster Level equal to their HD. This SLA does not trigger circuitbleed, and may only be used as creatures of the Monstrous Humanoid or Animal type. As this SLA is a Psychic/Psionic effect, it is treated as having only a thought component, allowing it to be used in a grapple or areas of silence with no penalty.

Basic Information

Anatomy

All told, the anatomy of the Nabī is a thing poorly understood by even the Ruatiwangans - and ironically may even be better understood by The Iron Empire, as by and large the Nabī are protected so stringently under the law of the Ruatiwangan Suzerainty that it is largely illegal to even given medical attention to them unless they request it or unless their lives are in critical danger; and even then such medical records are often confiscated or destroyed by the government to cooperate with the Nabī's wishes for privacy. However, from Ironite study of similar ape-like creatures across Numiastra and Ruatiwanga both, their anatomy is likely somewhat similar to the likes of Apes and Gorillas - utterly enormous and shaggy creatures, they are muscular to an almost extreme degree and possess a vastly superior musculature, skeletal system, and the like compared to Humans such that it is with little exaggeration that an adult Nabī could pulverize an adult Human in the span of mere seconds.   What likely sets the Nabī apart from their more bestial Ape Cousins is their extreme intellect - in possession of brains so abnormally massive that they are blessed with psychic powers that are poorly understood by most all who encounter them, the Nabī have minds that are potent enough to not only communicate directly into the minds of those nearby but also bend those same minds to their will.

Biological Traits

Truly little information exists on the biological traits of the Nabī - ancient Ruatiwangan myths tell tale of many tribes of Nabī that once had different appearances and different traits, almost none of them are seen in the modern day.

Genetics and Reproduction

Though they are believed to reproduce sexually, the specifics of how Nabī reproduce is an utter mystery - even moreso due to their status as a Highly Endangered species.

Growth Rate & Stages

With so little information known about them, all information about the growth stages and life cycles of the Nabī is unknown - though there are several activist groups pushing for a better understanding of these mighty giants in the current-day Suzerainty in the hopes of providing better care to the species lauded by many Ruatiwangans as the grandfathers of their own species in times long past.

Ecology and Habitats

Though they may have once colonized grasslands, savannahs, praries, forest, and jungle alike in times long lost to history and memory, the Nabī of the modern day are creatures who dwell almost exclusively in the deepest and wildest reaches of Jungles and Forests - living in ancient moss-covered temples that once stood as gleaming monuments to their glory thousands of years ago yet now stand as little more than decrepit, decaying mausoleums of a people so ancient that even their glories and triumphs have largely been lost to the ebb and flow of time.   Widely lauded as champions of the forest and all its mystic wonder, the Nabī are a people who favor the wild, untamed reaches for their home - and are indeed best suited to life in jungle canopies and rainforest reaches where their immense strength can be put to best use. In such places, at least by the tales of the Ruatiwangan people, they once served the vital role of Protectors of the Wilds - communing with the land's nature spirits and protecting the animals and other races of the woodlands from exploitation and abuse. Fulfilling a lesser version of this purpose even now despite having long since lost the ability to see or hear the same nature spirits that yet bless them, the Nabī are a people who are masters of living in harmony with nature - often taking it upon them to watch over other species in the area from afar and protect them as guardian deities.   Perhaps due to this exact protective behavior are they often referred to with extreme respect by most Ruatiwangans as Jaddi - or "Grandfather" - as a sign of respect to the Nabi of ages past whose protective instincts not only helped protect many of the fledgling species that now inhabit the lands of the Suzerainty, but also helped guide them onto the paths they now walk.

Dietary Needs and Habits

While Nabī are biological omnivores, they eat a largely plant-based diet - supplementing it only occasionally with small pieces of meat.

Biological Cycle

With so little information known about them, all information about the growth stages and life cycles of the Nabī is unknown - though there are several activist groups pushing for a better understanding of these mighty giants in the current-day Suzerainty in the hopes of providing better care to the species lauded by many Ruatiwangans as the grandfathers of their own species in times long past.

Behaviour

Contrary to what is often expected of such massive, intimidating creatures, Nabī are often described in the current-day Suzerainty and in history books as fearsome protectors of the land - imbued with a ferocious savagery that cannot be ignored yet also with a strange combination of towering Ego and protective paternal and maternal instincts towards other species that often make them natural guardians, overseers, and shephards. While they are undoubtedly prideful(Sometimes even too much so), they are a deeply spiritual people who are almost skittish with their desire for solitude and isolation - almost as if they are a race of martyrs who have sworn a Vow of Isolation.   However, even their eons of Isolation has not tamed their protective instincts - and while they are truly ferocious when angered, they often prefer the company of their own kind and emerge only when certain duties or tasks require it of them; preferring to help and watch others from a distance like parents happily observing their children succeeding from afar rather than involving themselves overmuch in the affairs of others.   Yet, when they do involve themselves in the civilized world(A thing which happens rarely), they are truly animated companions - there is seldom a more overriding companion one could find than a Nabī who has agreed to drink or celebrate with you, often encouraging stories and drawing out cheers and eliciting drinks from those nearby with an often threatening zeal that unnerves others as much as it does encourages them. Yet, they also tend to be oddly delicate in their mannerisms as well - as if afraid of their own strength and what it might mean for those around them should they lose control or misjudge their own power.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

As towering apes, Nabī have facial features one would expect from such creatures - possessing faces that distantly resemble more Human visages yet undeniably animalistic and savage.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

As one of the most endangered species on Ruatiwanga, the Nabī are found exclusively within the deepest reaches of the Rainforests and Jungles of Northern and Eastern Ruatiwanga - far, far to the northern and eastern ends of the continent. As a result, they are seldom seem in the southern reaches near the lands of Numiastra.

Average Intelligence

Nabī are extremely wise and intelligent - not only thanks to their own Psionic Minds but also due to their dedication to ancient history and study of the countless tomes and secret texts kept within their temples.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

As powerful primates that are mightier than even the strongest Dire Gorillas, Nabī possess extremely sharp senses thanks to lifetimes spent in the darkened floors of their Jungle Homes and in underground temples built by their own hands(And those of slaves, reportedly) alongside extremely keen senses of smell - though perhaps most incredibly, Nabī possess minds so keen that they can literally sense the presence of intelligent creatures near them through means poorly understood by all others.

Racial Feat List:   NOT YET BUILT.
Lifespan
Nabi are believed to live in excess of 200 years at minimum.
Conservation Status
Nabī are perhaps one of the most endangered species on Ruatiwanga - so few in number that even their fellow Ruatiwangans often mislabel them as extinct when decades pass without a sighting of a living Nabī. Unfortunately, as they are also one of the most secretive and mysterious species of Ruatiwanga who are largely protected under Ruatiwangan Culture and Law, little can be done to correct their dwindling populations - as they themselves do not seem to trust other species enough to allow any of them to help, and most other species of Ruatiwanga hold them in too high a regard to dare suggest they require it in the first place.
Average Height
9ft - 12ft (2.74m - 3.66m)
Average Weight
800lbs - 1750lbs (362.87kg - 793.79kg)
Average Physique
Nabī are legendarily strong - rivalling and often exceeding even the Haaktura in terms of raw physicality. They are so utterly strong and massive that they could easily crush and smash a Human in a matter of seconds, and could easily lift hundreds or thousands of pounds off the ground.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
From what little information exists, Nabī fur is often black or similarly dark tones - with silvery tones visible as well. They seem to, for one reason or another, engage in tribal paintings of their fur in various patterns using white, silver, or other lighter colors to contrast their dark fur.
