Āʾ Fanyetr monastary
Located on the Theolisian peninsula, the monastary was founded by Exarch Amarashi as a hermitage, offering a refuge from the world that would allow them to maintain their humanity in the face of a lifelong curse.
The monastary is located in a thin place in the North-Wester hills of Helia, and this proximity to Dream allowed the Exarch's will to more strongly influence Reality, enabling them to retain their humanity despite being surrounded by others.
Although the religion that gave Amarashi their freedom collapsed in 5.614, the monastary remains with Amarashi still at its head, upholding the routines and rituals that enbale them to move among humanity safely.
The monastary initially comprised only of a modest High Hall, containing the shrine that is said to be a direct passage to Dream. Over the centuries, additional buildings have been added, including everthing that would be needed to support a monastic population - dormitories, a refectory, libraries, kitchens and kitchen gardens, bakery, brewery, etc - and the monastary has been entirely self-sufficient since 5.482.
The monastary operated until the collapse of the religion in 5.614, but now enjoys a newfound popularity with scholars, especially biologists, who find the remote location and heavily-fortified walls to be a useful basecamp for expeditions into the hills. Sill under the leadership of Exarch Amarashi, the monastary and Exarch alike have embraced their past with a radical acceptance uncommon to the region, and it is the Exarch themself who dubbed the monastary a 'monstary'. Maintaining the trappings of religion despite now being a wholly secular institution, the current Chancellor of the Faith, Meraad Bashshaan, has recently proposed a new theory about the portal's unusual location which has caught the attention of thaumatologists.
The monastary makes a modest income from its production of a spirit distilled from a nearly spring, which are said to bring the the drinker closer to Dream, temporarily granting them the power of prophecy. However, the spirit has suddenly been made unavailable in the last season. Bottles of the spirit, already highly sought-after, are now appearing on the black market for exorbitant sums of money, but are rumoured to be contaminated with something, causing madness or demonic possession instead of prophecy.
