ESS Kahawi

A Prestige-class passenger liner built by KogKjeforird Ryndett and operated by the Hōkū Uliuli line, the ESS Kahawi was KKR's first foray into luxury shipbuilding. It, and its sister ships, were intended to be not merely a mode of transport but a floating hotel, and their styling and amenities refect that.   Although the Prestige ships were designed for much longer voyages, the Kahawi currently runs between Flavik, Kjeforland and Auuiki, Kono'i, across the Neck of Kolokolou - a journey of some 2,140 km, which it does over three days. The ship carries 2,042 passengers (1,100 in third class, 600 in second, 342 in first) and 738 crew.   It is powered by two reciprocating steam engines, designed by the Torgerojas Steamworks, and is capable of a cruising speed of 21 kn (39 km/h) and a maximum speed of 23 kn (43 km/h).   The Kahawi was laid down in 5.896, completed in 5.899, and cost over one million Kjefori Raag. Although it has not yet reached the end of its projected service life, the ship has been superceded twice, first by the Vibrance class, then by the Constellation class liners.

Amenities

As is legally required by vessels operating out of Kjeforland, the ship's passengers are segregated into three classes, with access to amenities limited by ticket. Consequentially, the Flavik-Auuiki voyage is mostly avoided by Kono'i citizens and the ship caters mostly to Erwān passengers. However, despite the limited facilities, the third class decks were still consodered comparatively luxurious at the time - an insistence by the Hōkū Uliuli company, who objected to the segregation. All parts of the ship are styled, to a greater or lesser extent, in the then ultra-modern Monumentalist aesthetic.

First class

First class passengers have access to a saltwater swimming pool, gymnasium and sauna, squash courts, smoking room, library, an ocean viewing room, an open deck with benches and planters, an enclosed promenade, and two social cafés in addition to the formal restaurant.

Second class

Second class passengers have access to a smaller gymnasium, smoking room, writing room, library, enclosed promenade, and a restaurant.

Third class

Third class passengers have a reading and writing room, and public baths. Smoking provision is on an exposed deck and meals are served in a communal canteen.
