Hykkil von Hickenbottom met The Ladies' Hiking Club at his shop, Hykkil's Pickles, at The Overcroft. It had been 45 years since he and his compatriots defeated Kern of Esden and returned the Crown of Tenthun to House Kaelin. After the celebrations of the smallfolk died down, he renounced his dukedom (retaining both the honorifics Father of the Fatherland and Defender of the Faith, the latter of which he bore with ironic detachment) and returned at long last to Hundred House and his beloved Warrens.

With Lord Chaddock dead and buried, no one remained to ridicule him for his passionate interest in the cultivation of cucumbers. In the last decade he had found himself to be rather an adept pickler, and set up shop directly at the crossroads in contravention of any number of ordinances that no one would dare to quote to him. While his countenance would never betray it and his own mind would never admit the thought, here in the Overcroft the curmudgeonly adventurer was – perish the thought – content.
Hykkil von Hickenbottom is one of the legacy characters in this world, and was a Level 16 Ranger when he retired. He might come in handy someday.
