Coronation of the Oracle of Nir

Upon the death of the Oracle of Nir, an extremely important figure to the niril religion in Kritmorc, the child predestined to be their successor will be crowned the Oracle of Nir. The full ceremony lasts six days: three days of mourning and three days of celebration. The first three days are devoted to the late oracle and the last three days to the new oracle.

Mourning and Coronation

The ceremony for the coronation of the Oracle of Nir is not pre-planned, for the first day is marked by the death of the Oracle. On that first day the Oracle’s body will be prepared, all other organisations put into motion for the next few days, and the whole nation is notified of this tragedy.
The Oracle’s body will be displayed in the sanctum of the Temple of Queyr to give the people of Kritmorc the opportunity to mourn and say their last goodbyes. The second and third day are marked by several ceremonies in the sanctum, led by the High Perron, head of religion and head of state. At the end of the third day, the body of the Oracle will be cremated on a large pyre on the central dais of Portent Plaza.
The fourth, fifth and sixth day are devoted to celebrating the Oracle of Nir. On the fourth day, the successor will be presented to the nation for the very first time from the balcony of the oracle’s tower in the Temple of Queyr. The fifth day is marked by ceremonies led by the High Perron in all three temples of the Temples of Niril, in which the successor takes centre stage. At the end of that day, the successor enters the tombs in the Hollowed City, a holy place in the capital city of Zalbah-At. At dawn the next day, the successor returns to the Temple of Queyr, where they will be enucleated, and finally they are crowned on the central dais of Portent Plaza.

National Days of Rest

News of the death of the Oracle is spread quickly across the country by ringing the bells of all temples. On the first day, people are expected to finish their work quietly. The second and third day are national days of mourning, and the people of Kritmorc are free from work to do so. While it is not obligated, people often do work on the fourth and fifth day. On the sixth day the people of Kritmorc celebrate all day long.
Since a very large portion of the population lives in the capital of Zalbah-At, large processions of people pass through Portent Plaza to pay their respects to the late Oracle. Even from a day's travel away people might come to Zalbah-At. People incapable of visiting the capital oftentimes pay their respects in a temple to Queyr on the second or third day.
