Oracle of Nir
On the day of the birth of their successor, the Oracle of Nir has a vision. On the day of the death of their predecessor, the Oracle of Nir has a vision. So it has always been, and so it will always be.
Role
As a theocracy where government and religion are strongly intertwined, Kritmorc relies heavily on the oracular abilities of the Oracle of Nir. The visions of the oracle do not only describe what to expect in both the near and far future, but also dictates how to prepare and react in response to these future events.
Appointment
The successor to the current oracle is appointed at birth. The Oracle of Nir has a vision of their successor and the child will be raised at the Temple of Queyr. Upon the death of their predecessor, the child will be enucleated and crowned as the Oracle of Nir. The ceremony involved with the coronation of the oracle takes several days during which the people of Kritmorc mourn the previous oracle and revere the new.
Temple of Queyr
The Oracle of Nir lives at the Temple of Queyr, the largest temple dedicated to the holy Queyr and one of the three main temples in Kritmorc known as the Temples of Niril.
As a child, the successor to the oracle is raised at the temple and goes on occasional excursions to learn about the country they will one day serve. Once crowned, the Oracle of Nir rarely leaves the temple. Once a year they will bless the people of Kritmorc from the central dais in Portent Plaza. However, normally, they present themselves from a high balcony of the temple to the people in the plaza.
