The Groundlain

The Groundlain, a sorrowful title among the Skysworn, is bestowed upon Riders who have experienced the heart-wrenching loss of their beloved dragon companions. Once a Rider's dragon has departed from this world, leaving an indelible void in their life, they become Groundlain. The guild, recognizing the profound grief and emotional burden these individuals carry, takes on the responsibility of caring for them in their time of need.   Despite the weight of their loss, some Groundlain finds solace in offering their services for the most perilous and daring missions. With nothing left to lose, they bravely venture into the face of danger, driven by a sense of purpose or perhaps a desire to honor the memory of their fallen dragons. This selflessness and determination in the face of adversity command respect and admiration from their fellow guild members.

Qualifications

To attain the title of Groundlain within the Skysworn Guild, one must, unfortunately, go through the heart-wrenching experience of losing their dragon companion. The qualification for this rank is not one that any Rider seeks but rather a consequence of the inevitable cycle of life and loss that comes with the deep bond between dragon and rider.   Groundlain are those who have served as Dragon Riders and have endured the profound grief of their dragon's passing. They have experienced the indescribable pain of saying farewell to their faithful and beloved companions. The Skysworn community recognizes the significance of the loss these riders have endured and provides a space for them to heal and find comfort among their fellow guild members. While there are no tests or trials to reach this rank, the experience of loss and the resulting emotional journey shape the lives of those who carry the title of Groundlain within the Skysworn guild.
