San Emigdio
San Emigdio was a mining town in Baja California, Mexico. In the 1930s, a major earthquake hit the town, levelling many of the buildings, and collapsing the mine shafts, leading to the deaths of almost 2,500 people.
The only building in the town left untouched was La Iglesia de San Emigdio, the parish church, for which the town was named. The fact that the church was dedicated to Saint Emygdius, the patron saint of those suffering due to Earthquakes, lead the town to be briefly a pilgrimage site, but the area had to be closed to outside visitors due to the danger of sinkholes, and the Diocese of Ensenada issued an official statement intended to disuade parishioners from visiting the church.
Since then, the town has been entirely abandonned.
