Iron Rock
Iron Rock is a region almost entirely filled by a monumental mountain range stretching along the Northern border of Midland.
Geography
The Iron Rock range has many of the Olam's highest peaks, including the highest, Runeforge Mountain. The Iron Rocks include over fifty mountains exceeding 7,200 metres (23,600 ft) in elevation, including ten of the fourteen 8,000-metre peaks. By contrast, the highest peak outside the Western Continent is 6,961 metres (22,838 ft) tall.
Fauna & Flora
The flora and fauna of the Iron Rocks vary with climate, rainfall, altitude, and soils. The climate ranges from tundra at the base of the mountains to permanent ice and snow at the highest elevations. This diversity of altitude, rainfall and soil conditions combined with the very high snow line supports a variety of distinct plant and animal communities.
At high altitudes, the elusive snow leopard is the main predator. Its prey includes mountain goats grazing on the alpine pastures and living on the rocky terrain. Other animals include deer, bears, white wolves, and vultures.
Iron Rock is particularly known for its giant mountain goats, which are used by dwarves for travel and even warfare, as they are masters of traversing the extreme terrain of the mountains.
Natural Resources
The Iron Rocks are home to a diversity of medicinal resources. Plants from the mountainside forests have been used for millennia to treat conditions ranging from simple coughs to snake bites.
The Iron Rocks are also an excellent source of many minerals and precious stones, being the main producer of Runestones.
