Runestone

Runestones have been mined by Iron Rock Dwarves for millennia. Collected from the blazing infernos at the bowels of mountains, Runestones hold an immense amount of energy within them. How much energy can be stored and how quickly it can be discharged deviates. Every user of magic uses a Runestone.

Manufacturing process

Runestones are mined from the bowels of Iron Rock, often as clear crystals of various colors. The stone is then analyzed by a Runesmith to determine its capacity (how much energy it can hold) and power (how quickly can it release energy). Generally, Runestones mined from deeper mines have higher capacities. The Runestone is then brought to a Runeforge, where it is hammered by a massive press until cracking. When it cracks, the Runesmith knows that it had absorbed as much as it can since energy is expended on cracking. Promising Runestones are cracked many times until they are more opaque than transparent to ensure that the capacity is reach. That process is usually done at The Great Runeforge where it is much quicker.
