Runestone Magic

All users of magic, wizards or shamans, warlocks or sorcerers, use a Runestone as a source of power.

Manifestation

After being charged in a Runeforge (like the The Great Runeforge) Runestones are stored with immense amounts of energy, up to the Stone's maximum capacity. The energy can be expended at a rate depending on its power, and recharged at any rate by inflicting more energy on it.
Many wizards and shamans around Olam try to unlock the secrets of Runestones, using their energy for different functions (say, launching a fireball). Some functions are well known and popular, while others are recently discovered or protected.
The process of using Runestone energy for a function is difficult to describe to someone who has never done it before, and is mostly intuitive. For instance, one could tell you how to perform a back flip in words, but to actually perform it you need practice. Someone who has been doing back flips for years can control their speed and positioning in space while performing a back flip, and expends less mental effort and energy. Whereas, you as a back flip novice would struggle to rotate fully let alone land on your feet. That is unless you have done similar things before, or have an innate talent for back flips.
