Hags

Powerful feytouched magic casters taking the form transmuted old ladies. Their appearance and skill varies based on their covens and magic. They exist all over the material plane, being told as stories to younger kids, yet the stories are all too real.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Hags are usually very bony and skinny in appearance, resembling deformed old ladies with long claw-like nails, crooked noses and horribly hunched backs. Despite these sickly and decrepit appearances, Hags are usually decently powerful fighters when it comes down to it, being able to easily gouge their nails through most peoples bodies. They usually do not resort to close combat however, as their bodies are much more frail than their outwards strength.

Genetics and Reproduction

Hags do not reproduce by traditional means, they have no reproductive organs or systems, or frankly any internal systems at all, sustaining themselves on the pure life force of others. Hags reproduce by stealing a child away in the night, one that wandered too far into the woods, or one that got lost in the sprawling city alleyways. Hags will eat the stolen child and, while not directly killing it, birth that child anew into the world formed now as a Changeling. Should the Hag have access however, they will immediately replace the child with a similar looking Changeling, as the process to birth the stolen child into a new Changeling takes upwards of two months.   This is not the only way Hags can reproduce however, as Hags are known to make deals of all sorts, they are known to approach pregnant women and make a deal for their next born child, promising to take it under their wing and teach it Fey magic. While partially true in their words, taking this deal will have the woman birth a Changeling directly instead of what their child would have been, then making it the Hags child. Changelings, should they decide to grow up that way and grow old like their Hag mothers, will grow up to be new Hags themselves.

Ecology and Habitats

Hags require people around their environment, often living on the outskirts of cities and towns in a nice, well run cozy homestead, though this is most likely than not an illusion. A good Hag will be able to hide in plain sight amongst the people of the town they live near, just being known as the kindly old lady on the outskirts, though they need to move often as people get suspicious of the old lady that has lived a bit too long. The more experienced Hags live right in the hearts of cities, usually going completely unknown their entire lives, taking every opportunity they can to disguise themselves as a poor soul who may have passed away due to an accident, hiding the original cause of death and taking up new lives completely just to stay hidden.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Hags sustain themselves off of deals and pure life energy, Hags will seek out those who are desperate enough for a win and give them a deal that the Hag will benefit greatly from. Occasionally, they will place a mental mark on these people and continue seeking them out, and usually being the ones to cause them more misfortune so they continue coming back. Once a Hag has squarely secured a victim, they will deal with them until the victim owes a bit too much to the Hag and cannot properly pay off their debt, that is when the Hag can do whatever she wishes to the victim, usually devouring their very soul and turning them into an adornment for their lair. These adornments usually have the victims psyche forever trapped within them as a perpetual punishment.
