Imperial Inquisition

The Imperial Inquisition

The Inquisition is the religious fighting force of the Empire, to believe in one of their Six Old Gods (a mandatory religion) is to show both your loyalty to the Empire and your devotion to Yibbithal. The Road to Salvation is a long and painful one, one not meant for the weak of heart. They hunt down and burn out any heresy within the Empire, the seeds of the non-believers need to be stamped out before they blossom.

Praise Worlds

In some cases, captured enemies or heretics from within the Empire will be shipped to Praise Worlds, a fate worse than death for those less unfortunate few. Praise Worlds are planets that have been completely terraformed into grand temples dedicated to one of the Old Gods. There exist country-sized gardens with countless monuments to their deity and libraries full of literature for their followers about their God or Goddess.   But to the Praisers, this is hell. Those unlucky few are stripped of sanity and autonomy, hundreds of men and women reduced to mindless worshipers who sing the praise of their new deity for the rest of their lives. Some say if you stand on the surface of a Praise World, you can hear the symphony of Praisers from deep within this Temple world's bowles.

Divine Origins

Back when the Empire was first being formed by Tacrt Boezlk and his followers, the Inquisition was created as a branch dedicated to working with the Old Gods, led by Kars. They would operate as an armed religious sector of the Empire who aimed to empower the Old Gods in preparation for Yibbithal. It would later expand to become the enforcers of the religion within the Empire and the armed army of the Old Gods.

Worship

Worship of the Old Gods is done through any number of tasks, from making a prayer to them before consuming food to dedicating a battle to their glory. Some churches have certain practices that only count as worship, like the Church of Urdea demanding all female and male members who are not married remain apart from each other or the Church of Tagator which requires members to discard some of their food into a fire in his name.

Granted Divine Powers

The Grand Guard are the armed force of the Inquisition, further split into Six Guilds, each one devoted to a certain God or Goddess. And to each Guild, certain abilities or Boons are gifted to loyal and above-average soldiers, they are known as "Champions" and are favored by their respective deities.

Political Influence & Intrigue

The Gods of each respective Church hold some political power in the high ranking of the Empire. They do not stand as high as the families of the Imperial Monarch but they have great influence, especially among members of their church. This power is usually used to help decide who the next Emperor or Empress will be. The Royal Families are bared from directly interfering with who is chosen but the Inquisition is free to do as it pleases. As such, it can become quite benefitical to have certain gods or goddess on your good side.

Sects

There are Six Sects within the Church, each one dedicated to a certain Old Deity, the Gods from the former Universe;
  • Church of Kars
  • Church of Zemo
  • Church of Fermis
  • Church of Urdea
  • Church of Tagator
  • Church of Ajanus

Begrudgingly Co-Existing

The Inquisition is primarily led by the Old Gods, led by Kars, who are largely driven by the prospect of winning the next End War, which will give them the power to craft a Universe full of blind followers and worshipers.
The Empire is led by the Monarch Families, who work with the Inquisition but are very aware that the major reason they are so powerful is that the Old Gods have sided with them. But they are wary of them, they repeatedly have displayed no interest in the outcome of the Empire and only desire to win Yibbithal.
