House Aphrodite

History

Despite the flowery story House Aphrodite tells themselves, the other Houses remember her role in the Heretic War quite differently. Initially, House Aphrodite covered for Apollo and their experiments. As more Imperial Houses began to research maltech and the Imperium divided into two sides, Aphrodite (along with House Hephaestus) was one of the last neutral holdouts. Then one day, whether through avarice or anger, Aphrodite fell upon Delphi I with a terrible fury. Within a week, she had obliterated its major city centers. House Apollo did unleash plagues upon their enemies but only in self-defense, despite what Aphrodite has claimed ever since. Apollo's allies rushed to his defense but would not be in time to save his world. On the second day of the Siege of Delphi, Queen Soledad Carderas of House Hera called an emergency meeting of the Imperial Council. She declared this the first strike in a holy war and declared Apollo and all his allies traitors to the Imperium. The Heretic War had begun.

Mythology & Lore

Aphrodite was one of the oldest and most important goddesses, originating before the birth of the other gods. In antiquity, she was known as Eos, goddess of the dawn. Before that, she was called Hausōs, Daughter of the Sky. Whispers of her origins can be seen in ancient Vedic texts and ancient Hindu beliefs. She guided her colonists to Corinth III, where they found a primitive alien race that held the secret of eternal beauty. She swayed them when they sought to take the knowledge by violence, instead establishing a society of love and acceptance. Still, Aphrodite was also a warrior goddess. She was quick to anger and utterly brutal in her vengeance. During the Heretic War, House Apollo attempted to wipe out her tribes with a virulent plague. They were able to survive thanks to the secrets of Rectifier magic taught to them by the Veela. House Aphrodite armed themselves and fell upon the Apollonians with merciless fury. Their largest cities were ground to dust, their industrial bases destroyed, and their populace reduced to a handful of scattered, desperate refugees. In the end, Aphrodite brought her tribes to heel. She allowed Apollo and his flock to live in exchange for the secrets of gengineering, that they might never suffer such an affliction again. It is a happy coincidence that this same knowledge enabled the Aphroditans to ensure longevity and beauty for the masses incapable of magic. It is said that Apollo fled Delphi I in shame or fear and that Aphrodite followed, vowing to pursue him to the ends of the cosmos to ensure another tragedy never befalls her people. According to her priestesses, she still lives and will return when her people need her most.
