Iris Porter

Overview

Iris Porter is a human who is primarily known for her work in the Omicron Government. While originally from Earth, she made the Omicron Quadrant her home in 3193. She traveled with Kansas Vantara and Lewis Auznarr for a time until she began working for Prime Minister Margaret Croft and later Royal T. Flush.

Porter became Prime Minister of the quadrant in 3210 and served the longest of any prime minister, her full term lasting until 3267.

Early Life

Iris Porter was born on Earth in 3168 to James and Janet Porter. James was a renowned captain in the Interplanetary Navy while Janet worked for Earth’s government. They both wished for their daughter to go into their respective fields, but Porter had plans of her own. She attended the Interplanetary Academy up until her last year when she went to the Gamma Quadrant to study abroad. She had always excelled in coding and planned on using her knowledge to work for the Navy, but after her father died in a skirmish on the neutral border between the Sol System and ---, she changed her mind. After she got word that her mother had passed as well due to grief, Porter finally returned to Earth. She finished her studies at the Institute while living with her grandparents. Not long after she finished, however, her grandparents died in a house fire while she was away at school.
Not having any family left on Earth, Porter picked everything up and left for the Omicron Quadrant, a place her grandfather had told stories about when she was little.

Career

Arrival and Bounty Hunting

Upon her arrival to the Omicron Quadrant, Porter met Captain Kansas Smith and Lieutenant Lewis Auznarr. When Prime Minister Maggie Croft met her and found out she had traveled to the Omicron Quadrant to live permanently, she offered Porter a job working with Vantara and Auznarr. Porter accepted and worked with them for a time until Croft offered her another job working for the government, specifically as Croft's assistant.

The Allegiance War

Porter is often credited for saving Royal T. Flush's life when he was running for the position of prime minister. Raoul Vencherson would have succeeded in killing Flush and launching a crusade against the texlors if Porter had not stepped in the last minute and shot Vencherson.
After Prime Minister Flush officially entered office in 3194, he hired Porter to be his second in command after his long-time assistant Banks was taken out of commission by Karlee Fitzgerald. This was where she really made a name for herself within the government. Flush tasked her with acting as a liaison between the Omicron Government and the Omicron High Council. Near the end of the war, after Croft was rescued, Flush and Croft requested that Porter make a bid for the ministership in the future.

Prime Minister and Beyond

After the Allegiance War ended and Croft resumed the ministry in 3199, Porter worked directly under Croft as her aide, taking the place of Twingella. When Teller Rane made her final move to infiltrate the Valnuir, Porter played a huge role in stopping her plans and helped save everyone involved.
When Croft retired in 3210, Porter won the election as Prime Minister with no competition. She holds the record for being the longest-serving prime minister.

Porter was introduced to Drake Felder after Vantara and Auznarr rescued him and the rest of John Wolfe's crew. The two began dating shortly after Porter saved Flush's life. Near the end of the war, Porter found out she was pregnant. Just before the final battle, she tells Felder who proposed to her. Porter was at DOMAIN Headquarters during the final battle and got caught near an explosion. She ended up saving Admiral Isaac Kingsley and his team's lives, but she lost her baby and was told that she would likely not be able to ever have one in the future. She called off her engagement to Felder and stayed estranged from him until 3205 after Felder was able to convince her that he still loved her.
