Sandsea Desert
'You best not go out into the dunes, hun. Yuh'd be takin' your life and throwin' it out into the sun to dry out all slow and painful like... but if I can't talk you off it, at least travel at night an' take plenty of water." ~ Annamara Warsh, Resident of Kyrioth's Gate
Geography
Spanning a large swath of the northeastern mainland of the continent, the Sandsea Desert is an obstacle most of the inhabitants of Omiralon would rather not exist. Merchants needing to transport goods from the Free Cities to settlements in the west often lament the need to either hire an expensive seaworthy crew to cross the Dragon's Deep, or travel the long way around the Worldspine Mountains through Solihana (High Elves) territory.
The uninformed visitor to the area would wonder at this heavy avoidance of the area but would learn quickly upon entering the desolate place. A vast, dry land, with endless dunes rising and falling, it is one of the easiest places to get lost in Omiralon due to its lack of vegetation. Only those well versed in navigation via celestial bodies can successfully traverse the desert. Despite their ability to conjure food and water out of thin air, even the mages of the Academy shy away from the place, preferring other methods of travel across the desert than travel overland. All, however, stay well away from the center of the desert in particular, as tales of a massive magical landmass is said to lie there, filled with monsters even the mages fear.
