Baronet Ansthenor
Baronet Ansthenor, Psychopomp of Dread is a Death Knight who occasionally appears within the Aquatic Kingdoms, particularly the Three Brothers Isles.
In life, Ansthenor was among the earliest members of the Chain of Charon. He was a zealot of Hades, ruthless with his punishments and brutally accurate with his whip and scythe. As a Human, though, he quickly neared the age of retirement. King Hades offered him immortality in exchange for continuing to deliver death to the unworthy. He eagerly accepted, not fully realizing for weeks that his body had begun to decay and rot even as his strength returned to far past what it was in youth. Ansthenor was eventually killed by a devout follower of Poseidon that he attempted to strike down at the docks for suspected resurrection.
Baronet Ansthenor is known for his subtlety and patience. Given the number of souls he would have claimed as a Chainguard, sages believe he should hvae the power to appear on the Material Plane far more often than he seems to have done, if historical accounts are to be believed. Some believe he is a master manipulator, hiding in the shadows while others carry out his orders until such time as he must appear on a battlefield to fulfill his purpose; others speculate that he takes on alternate identities in order to obfuscate any notoriety he might gain. A few conspiracies posit that some shadowy organization, like the Chain of Charon or the Company of Hades, might even be hiding most of his Material appearances, allowing him enough cover to slip unnoticed between Hades and the realms of mortals via The Wall.
