Duke

A duke is a noble, typically male, who controls a large territory of land, usually called a duchy. The feminine equivalent of the title is Duchess.

Dreibach

After the Glorious Revolution of Y1105 deposed the King of Dreibach and converted the nation into a republic, dukes and duchesses were elected as Ministers in duchy-wide elections. However, in all but the Western Duchy, the Minister has either officially or unofficially begun using the title of Duke again. Controversially, in Y1110, the aging Duke Johan-Sebastian I of the Central Duchy was succeeded by his son Wilhelm-Friedemann I, in an election many suspect was rigged.

Scalados

Duchies in Scalados are called dioceses, and heavily tied to the temple-campuses of the Wild Dynasty. Dukes and duchesses are expected to visit their diocese's patron temple during major holidays, when they are treated the same as any worshipper. Younger heirs of ducal families are often prioritized for entry at temple-campuses.

Dukes and duchesses are traditionally either born into their titles or marry into them.
