Hell-Engines
Hell-engines are a group of little-understood constructs used and wielded by the Dreibach Empire and its allies beginning in the spring of Y1111. These have been used to terrible effect against potential enemies of the Empire, including during the rebellion in Brightwater.
The similar-seeming group of constructs that have been labeled hell-engines by enemies of the Empire vary greatly in size, form, and ability, but all share a few traits. The shells of these machines are made of an unknown enchantable metal that resembles dark iron and appears similar to the carapaces of death knights. This metal exterior encloses a glowing energy of indeterminate form, which seems to be a distillation of an extraplanar being's essence. Contrary to what their name suggests, the hell-engines do not seem to be powered explicitly by infernal sources, but also by other extraplanar means. Clear evidence of these constructs carrying the (likely magically-compelled) spirits of devils, Courtless fey, and dragons has been found. The nature of some others is unclear, but theories developed from stolen plans and other intelligence have speculated that hell-engines powered by demons, ghosts, elementals, corrupted celestials, or even mortal souls may be in use or planned for future deployment.
Below are a list of reports of unusual constructs collected by the Cantonova Special Forces and tentatively considered hell-engines.
- Iron footsoldiers powered by infernal and fey energy; after further research, the fey-powered constructs seem to have held trapped Sorrowsworn
- Constructed Warg-like mounts ridden by the elite cavalry of the Pack of the Black Claw and the Howling Horde; an autopsy from arcanists of the Beacon of the Skylands revealed Dragon eggs embedded in their core
- Iron riverboats that belch black smoke, leading platoons from the Murder of the Mudbanks; the immense power of these machines was used to facilitate the flooding of Vyamöst
- Enormous steaming siege towers in the Western Woods near the Endless Magma that resemble metal treants and seem to pull moisture from the creatures and environment around them
- Three-headed golem-like constructs found in stolen plans from artificer Otto von Phrygus's workshops near The Wall, somewhat similar in design to the Machine of the Nexus; the interruption of the Blood Moon's Nexus in May Y1111 appears to have hindered their completion
